Jackie Skelly Ballsbridge Vs. SV Fitness IFSC

    Hi folks,

I'm looking at joining a gym in the next few days. I was a member of david lloyd for a year and realised i could be spending the money (about €1200 a year) on other things! then i was in crunch fitness ucd which was really cheap (about €140 a year) and found it great but I missed things like the pool and some standard of upkeep/quality. Basically i'm looking for something in between the two.

SV fitness is a great location in the IFSC but JS ballbridge is on the way home. I know JS is alot more expensive than SV, but i'll be getting some money off so i'm just looking for student/individual prices for both and the general jist of member's impressions ???

also, i was in a gym up until about 11 months ago, kinda fell outta routine, had more important things going on, my diet has gone to crap and i've put on about 2 stone. I'm about 5ft 11 and 15stone. really keen to shape up and wondering if any has any tips for seeing quick results that i intend to back up with a better lifestyle.

    thanks in advance

Hi, sorry dont know anything bout SV, free weights in JS Ballsbridge is quite limited but looks ok otherwise. Id suggest Westwood Sandymount if your looking in that area, nice and clean, adults only and 2min drive from ballsbridge, moved there from david lloyd and happy out! Think they do student prices but not certain...

I'm in David Lloyd, really happy with it. I don't think there is much of a difference between Riverview and the others pricewise. I looking into JS in ballsbridge and what they were offering me was only €20 less a month than Riverview. Plus I live right beside it which is an upside.

Don't go near SV. I trained there for 6 or 7 months in my first year of college and it was the biggest pile of sh!te ever to pose as a gym.

    No squat rack for starters.
    No chin/dip station.
    Dumbbells to 35kg I think.
    4 25kg plates and 2 20kg'ers. The rest were all 10's and 5's.

If you've any intention of using freeweight's then be very skeptical going in there.

If you pass by a Total Fitness or Westwood on the way home it would be a much better option.

yea i'm not so much into the free weights sorta stuff. whatever way my body grew from playing rugby i've got big shoulders and back muscles even though i do hardly any exercise! i'm just looking for good cardio machines and then intermediate upper body stuff like 15-30kg dumbells and rowing machines etc. i've started long walks at night to get back into the swing of things. i started a new job wear i gotta look my best so i'm starting to get self conscious about extra weight here and there. plus its hard to keep the weight down having office lunches etc. my body usually reacts pretty well when i give it a kick up the ass with some serious cardio sessions

Well, alcatraz is a tourist spot now so it's really only a boat journey to leave.

andymad, you've made your (potentially libellous) point on 3 different threads now so I think we get the message.

Im in JS Ballsbridge, no squat rack, no bench, no olympic bars. It has db that go up to 40 kg but thats is. I have to use the ez bar for most things, its a load of cac!!.

Although the cardio machines are alright, 6 to 8 rowing machines and a load of treadmills.

I would be interested in hearing what David Loyd has to offer as I am looking for a gym which offers more than than Jackie ****tys.

The only reason I am a member is because its literally next door to my office.

    Hi Guys

I have annual membership (€400.00) with SV Fitness (NCI, IFSC, Dublin 1) which I got just 2 weeks ago, now suddenly i have planned to move to lucan and this membership can only be transferred ( as per Gym policy), I would like to sell this one to some one who is interested. You can enjoy at least 11 more months at a better rate, apparently it is a help to me too but I can offer you 11 months for €300.00 only, if u pay monthly I suppose it is €60 per month so this may be a good saving for you but more importantly, and to be honest, it will help me save my otherwise baddebt money. I am down to 2 days a week at job so money is tight hence this saving will help me...you can ring me at 0867911261 if u wish to take this over. Thanks-Ken
