Regarding water

    Hi,
How much water do you drink a day? I am currently drinking 4-5ltrs per day. Is this too much? 6' 168lb.

Also, I think I heard somewhere before that when you drink water while eating... it dilutes the enzymes that your body produces to break down the foods. Thus expending more energy etc. to break it down. Is this true?

If it does I'd exepct the effect to be minimal.

I drink probably 3+ litres a day. Less than 4 anyway. If I was to drink anymore I'd be peeing hourly....

10 litres. 2 bottles of 5 litre bottles. I stopped drinking any fizzy drinks or anything like that last summer.

    You are joking, right?

Not to hijack here people - but it was mentioned to me before that if drinking alot of water (4/5 litres a day) it's a good idea to have at least one glucose drink along with it during the day - as so much water can flush out valuable nutrients etc?? How true/untrue is that? Thanks!

If that's in any way true (and I find it hard to believe that it is) then, with an unquenchable thirst like that, I'd get myself to a Doctor - you may be diabetic!

I don't know about glucose but the small electrolytes (K, Na, Ca and Mg) are affected by the water balance in your body. If I'm sweating a lot and therefore drinking a lot I'll add these to my liquids.

Yeah I think as Hunnymonster said if you were sweating profusely for long periods of time and only drinking water you could be in trouble but just throughout the working day I really wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't think glucose would be much use either. AFAIK there's not all that many mineral etc in it?

A sachet or 2 of diarolyte might do the trick. Not sure if it's a good idea of extended periods tho.

Pure glucose is just that...glucose. Although I assume most sports drinks, like luco, powerade etc put in good ratio's of Na -> K -> Cl or anyother guys needed.

Glucose and salts (K Na etc) are co-transported in the renal system, you can't shift one back into circulation without having the other.

Honesltly 10 lites, and I'm not that concerned with fitness. As long as I'm flexible, I'm fine.

Jesus, when I was on the bloody Lipotrim I was on about 6 litres a day and was constantly running to the toilet every 30 mins or less. How the hell are you managing on 10 per day????

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

I'd be the same as Hanley and I pee every half hour I'd say. Drives me mad.

Seriously funktastik, that is what my mum says, but I said you can never drink enough water. How wrong could I have been?

Oh and the thing about taking the piss...was funny.

When I drink water all day, I feel sick, my mouth dries and my breath smells. Today, when I took a sip of coke after loads of water, I felt better. Funny that.

You are probably going to kill yourself if you keep drinking 10 liters a day.
Your body needs a decent amount of salt to keep everything in balance.

You can OD on water though I think over the course of a whole day your body can take in up to 15ltrs.

10ltrs seems a little overkill though.

Woman died on a radio show water drinking contest "hold your wee for a wii" or something to that effect. It was a contest to see who could drink the most water without pissing. She drank two gallons (7.5 litres). http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9678573-1.html

I have used diarolyte for a few months at a time, it depends on what I am training for. Any GP or pharmacist I have spoken to about it have seen no pronlem. In my understanding its ok as long as you regulate it, I have read of people becoming dehydrated through taking too much rehydrate, but this mostly happened to people in desert races.

Excuse my ignorance here hunnymonster, in what form do you get these to add to your drink?

I think that's the sort of stuff in diarolyte. I was trying to find some info on what's in it online but couldn't.

All I know if that when I dehydrate myself to make weight, diarolyte's the only stuff that's ever helped me step back onto the platfor mwithout losing strenght.
