Excellent news.. their first gig in the Hub back in '02 still ranks as one of the best gigs I've ever ever been to. Came out, played The Earth Is Not.... from start to finish and left, but completly breathless throughout... fantastic stuff. Caught them again in June in the Astoria, new album is lacking cohesion in my opinion, but live were absolutely stunning again. Definitely worth it, Village or no Village... ******* would be amazing though so sell it out quickly and hope the promoters upgrade it to sell more :)

Tickets are available on tickets.ie and it turns out the promoter is Foggy Notions. gg all round.

EDIT: Seems Eluvium are supporting who are really great, they're on the same label as Explosions, similar style.

    Their on sale here
    http://www.tickets.ie/secure/booking1.aspx?event=W8L62

I have used them before and found them excellent and they have a far lower booking fee than ticketmaster.

That is good news, I try to avoid The Village as much as possible.

Ah delighted I got these, would have gone mental if I missed it. Tripod was damn nice the last time I was there too :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

So what did everyone think of this gig. I had never seen them before so didnt know what to expect. I though it was good but not amazing, could of been a bit louder maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭The Walsho

I enjoyed it very much, but yeah it probably could have been a bit louder. I've no real complaints though, was a decent gig :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 330 ✭✭*Hank Scorpio*

I actually went to see them in glasgow last year, the day we arrived me and my mate walked to find the venue, in big red letters we saw 'Explosions in the Sky' above the theatre/venue, underneath in small black was 'cancelled', turns out they had cancelled the evening prior to our flight :( so we spent the night in glasgow anyway. A few months later they announced the gig in Dublin so i was rather chuffed.

I thought the gig was pretty good myself but the feedback at times kinda ruined the subtle instrumentals particularly on 'First Breath After Coma'. I've heard better live versions, no encores kinda sucked too, it seemed to be over rather quick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,990 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Was decent enough, was at the sound desk and the sound was excellent. Some of the stuff is a bit samey, and the older stuff was definitely better. Oh, and to the "Colonel", congratulations, you were as big a knob as everyone expected you to be with your little bit of attention seeking, Who the **** brings a full chicken to a gig, and starts eating it with a knife and fork while perched against the sound desk. "Do you own the place?" indeed you child.

Cracking gig . .. loved it . .. Eluvium too!

    What? Someone did this?

Yep, one of those full deli chickens. Stank up the place as well.

    Hi

I was at this amazing gig in the Tripod on Saturday night. I got in late and missed the first half hour of the show. I would really like to know what songs i missed, so if anyone has the set list i would appreciate it. I have to say i found the sound in the tripod spot on for this gig. How did others feel about the gig / venue.

I thought it was damn epic, though I definetly agree about the quiter bits.
    no encores kinda sucked too

Apparently they don't do encores, ever.

I was at the mixing desk and I didn't see or smell this, though I was in quite the daze and didn't even give heed to my empty pint.

    good but not amazing

My view too. Eluvium was good but again not the best, I think a packed, standing venue is not the best place to listen to him. Explosions had some cracking moments but equally there was a lot of it that just all merged into one variation on a theme.

you missed the half hour of the show which voids your statement regarding the sound. thankfully they managed to fix whatever problems they were having - the bad sound really threatened to ruin what was an otherwise excellent gig.

Never thought i would say this but " Glad i missed the first half hour of the gig".
    Was it that bad?

Any idea where i can locate the set list.
Can you remember any of the songs that they played?
order is not that important, but if you have it i would appreciate it.

    thanks

Thought it was a good show, the songs off the earth is not... were best for me, and got some reaction from the crowd. It was disappointing that so many jokers just talked the whole way through and then booed when no encore was played, if your going to talk why go down the front or go at all:mad:. Picked up a copy of the rescue too:)
eluvium reminded me a bit of papa m, he wasnt really suited to the venue though. First time there since its renaming and was very happy with the venue, sound excellent and bouncers were decent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,990 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Can't say I liked Eluvium, he played "Canon in D" through delay pedals for a bit too long I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,822 ✭✭✭Morf

I just ordered the almost complete back catalogue of Eluvium, really impressed with it. I also picked up the rescue to complete my eits collection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 330 ✭✭*Hank Scorpio*

I enjoyed the crescendo to 'Catastrophe and The Cure' when Munaf gets on the single drum until the song's end. Awesome. Always loving hearing that song live.

From behind me - "Man they're just playing the same two chords over and over for the past two minutes."

Well moron, if you don't like their music why the hell are you at their gig? And if you've just ended up here not knowing anything about the band and you don't like what you hear, please refrain from standing up the front and talking constantly the whole way through with your nimrod friends.

Jeez - some people are just real idiots. I don't mind a bit of conversation here and there at a gig but a constant full volume conversation for the whole thing? **** off.

A**wipes aside, the gig was great though. Really looking forward to seeing them again in May.

Do you know where i can get this? It doesn't seem to be on any of his albums . . .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,990 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Sorry, I meant the song he was playing used a similar chord progression to this:

    Ok thanks.

Does anyone know the third layered guitar sample song Eluvium played, apart from taken and under the water it glowed?

Worst I have seen in a long time. They couldn't hold the crowds attention and had no stage presence whatsoever, I'd say at least 50% of the audience where chatting away during it due to the fact of it NOT BEING LOUD ENOUGH. I've seen Godspeed and the Mogwai and difference in sound was immense.

    I'm incredibly envious.

Anyway, I was right at the front, so the sound was good. I was surprised to hear all the talking in between songs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,425 ✭✭✭indiewindy

At the front too, so no sound problems for me, I just cant understand why so many people pay to go to gigs and then proceed to talk all the way through GRRR:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

You didn't see them in Tripod though. Could be different sound levels permissable in different venues.

I hear tell that MBV aren't going to play Glastonbury this summer because they aren't allowed to play loud enough for their liking.

He was using a loop station. I noticed a few people in the crowd didnt seem to understand this and started laughing when he stopped playing and the guitar continued. Most of what you heard he made on the fly with the guitar, the loop station, and some effects. I thought he was great personally.
