Core excercies and high intensity training

    Some terms I see mentioned alot are core excerices and hit intensity / interval training, in terms of core what excerices would you do for these in a gym (do they involve weights or just the body)?

    High intensity - in terms of cardio I can understand this but in terms of lifting weights whats a high intensity workout? Does it mean moving quickly between sets and lifting heavy? Is interval training the same thing? How do people here corporate these into a workout?

    Corksham,

    The abs' main focus is midline stabilisation, so a truly great core exercise is the overhead squat. It takes great core strength to stabilise a weight overhead and to allow for power to be transferred from the legs up.

    Of course, any exercise where the weight is above the core will need core stabilisation - presses, squats. Even deadlifts will help, since you have to keep your trunk strong.

    High intensity in weight training would refer to a percentage of your 1RM. So if you can squat 100kg once, an 80Kg squat x 5 is pretty intense.

    Would this have much of an effect on your abs? Like would it be as good/better as a sit up?
