Am thinking of doing this course in DCU. Has anyone else done it? Would you recommend it from a training in gym point of view? I do not want to work in gyms btw, it's just for personal development.

    Thanks in advance

    Clem:)

i done the ncehs and have come to the opinion that it is superior to ncef by the standard of the trainers i have met since, the nutrition 1 of of the lads covered was 1 a4 page of basic crap, ours had real in depth nutrition and in my opinion this can sperate good and bad trainers apart-there is lads on here with good knowledge without qualifications so the course is irrelevant if your not willing to self learn also, after i finished i done more and more and now just study all aspects of fitness to keep up to date-its up to you decide what type of trainer you may be, both certs are equally good for getting a job.

I am currently doing the NCEHS course and think it is great. Well laid out, covers what you need to know and sets those with the passion up to do what they want to do.

I have done the NCEHS and think it is fantastic compaired to the NCEF the trainers are a million times better and for the same amount of money your qualication also includes personal training.

Fair play Dragan-you have a passion for fitness and good knowledge so this will suit you down to the ground.

Turns out the course I was looking to do is an ITEC qualification given by Litton Lane training (used to award NCEF). It would suit me better to do this course when looking for the time off work (I work shift).

Do you think the difference in the quality of each course (NCEF NCEHS or ITEC) would be big or slight?

I'm thinking of doing the Health Studies and Personal Training course there next year. It seems alot better then the NCEF course.

in my experience itec is miles behind ncehs and ncef-1 of my friend just payed to sit the exam with no formal study-that sucks, he would not have passed the ncehs-but i did not do itec so thats only an opinion.

Heard from various people that NCEF is better than ITEC and that the NCEHS course is better than NCEF. I know instructors from NCEF and NCEHS and can't really see any major difference. I think it depends to a big degree how much you are really into this stuff and what you do afterwards yourself.

I have done the NCEHS course over 5 years back and found it good, the nurition bit wasn't to in depth from my point of view.

NCEHS's advantage is that you get your PT qualification as well, even if I would say you are by no way really qualified to do personal training. This comes with experience over the following years and your determination to learn, study and garther more knowledge.

As cowzerp said if you have a passion for fitness and want to get a job in that area it's one way to go.

For personal develpment it might be worthwhile looking for a course that doesn't include aerobics, the NECHS has an aerobics part which puts of most guys.

There are two ITEC's the International Thearpy Examinations Council and the 'Irish' ITEC who provide long distance learning. The real ITEC provide qualifications that are recognised all around the world, the Irish ITEC, well you've experienced that.

I did the ITEC course and i thought it was shocking. If you didnt have knowledge going in there you wouldnt know anything coming out. Total money scam IMO.

They have been in the press before.
The frustrating thing about them is that they are not doing anything 'technically' wrong.
They are selling courses without accreditation and relying on people to pay for courses without doing the proper research into the course.
What is annoying is that the retardsw at FAS some years ago incoporated some ITEC courses into their own and this (well at teh time anyway) gave ITEC some credence.
So now you have a situation of a dodgy course provider being recognised by an idiotic state agency. But Joe Soap thinks the whole thing is legit.
