Ive never played Airsoft before but after a trip to Vietnam a few years back and some shooting, and many hours of computer games like AA and BF2 would like to try it out. I have shot cheap plastic pellet guns (i dont know what you would class them as; Aisoft ect. Basically the cheap ones that jam constantly and shoot about 3 inches off target) before and only once or twice a nice metal one and of course some real guns in Asia. I would like to get just a handgun to start and see what they are like and maybe eventually an MP5 or MP7. Looking at the newbie page, the skirmishes sound like alot of fun. Quite like AA (i dont know if anyone here has played that before, Americas Army?). Anyway, i have a few questions about them so hope you dont mind me asking:

Firstly, if you buy a gun, i know it has to be 1 joule or under so say for example eirsoft.ie, i presume they would only sell guns under that right?

Also, would these guns be ok for indoor use? Like, setting up a target across the sittingroom and shooting it? Or would my ma arrive home to see all the windows and ornaments in pieces? :)

What would the chances be of getting hassle when buying one? If you order it online, would the power be checked beforehand or would you be likely to get called up and have to explain the law to them?

Finally, apart from skirmish places, where do people usually shoot? I see there are alot of people from my general area here, (Rathfarnham, Ballinteer, Stillorgan) and im sure you cant just shoot in a public field so where would you usually go?

The one im looking at is This one. Can anyone tell me if its a decent gun?

Thats all the questions i have for now. Sorry if any of this is covered in the newbie section as i read a good bit of it but not all.
    Thanks.

    That M9 is very good!

    Needs Gas.

Start with an AEG: maybe a DBOYS M4 or a Double EAgle UMP or an ARMY or CYMA AK47.

    Play at HRTA Swords

Shoot targets yes, walls no! Leaves lots of dents in walls.

    1st off, get to HRTA and have a go(You can rent:D ).

    - on eirsoft.ie, all guns are below 1 joule, so no worries about that.
    - you can use it indoor but be careful at what you aim, and i suggest you put some polystiren or a box behind your target ;)
    - im pretty sure you cant get into any hassle of this sort, plus if you buy from eirsoft.ie, noone is gonna open your parcel.
    - where to shoot ? at home, in your backyard, in any place with an authorization, or at a skirmish place, just dont shoot people in st stephen's green or anything like this
    - KJWorks makes nice gas guns, i think this one is pretty decent ;)

Oh right, might be worth renting first to see what its like. The guns above, are they all proper fully metal guns or plastic? Just wondering on the pricefront, what they cost. Cheers for the reply also.

Also, for gas guns, can you buy small gas canasters for refills? Or do you get some adapter to take from an actual big canaster. May be a silly question but thought id ask anyway :)

Careful firing them indoors they ricochet all over the place and bounce
off anything hard and sometime even come back straight at ya!!!!

    Can buy gas no problems.

Yeah your best bet is to rent at HRTA first.
Have a good fondle of everybodys gear to
see what you like the look and feel of
then make a decision about what to buy first.

Like lethal said an AEG is probably the best
    one to start off with.

Some are full metal some are plastic
depends on the item in question.

What i was thinking was doing something like closing the curtains and putting a target in front of them. They wouldnt go at enough speed to go through curtains i presume?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,612 ✭✭✭bullets

I fire mine out the back garden when I know the neighbors at either side
of me are not home. They make Sh1t of plastic pot plants that have been
left in the sun too long. Curtains they have not gone through but
I guess it depends on the quality of the curtains.

Have fired them into a light corrugated cardboard box.
Sometimes you will get full penetration other times
they will bounce or stick halfway.

if you never saw/used one before, you should really go at hrta and rent one to see what its like.
not every skirmish place lets you rent replicas, you really shouldnt miss that opportunity.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Thats another thing, you say you wait until your neighbours are out. Are the guns loud? Or is it that you dont want them to look out the window and get the wrong idea :)

Id say i will do that, probably not for a while tho so may get impatient and just buy one in the meantime. How much does HRTA cost actually?

    45 for a gun and entry. Its 18 for every 5000 bb's.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 306 ✭✭davvowl

the guns make some noise alright, and its sure going to get your neighbour's attention in very few time :p

The ones on Eirsoft are great because they cost between €80-150 and have all you need except bbs.

Hi Nicelad. Welcome to the group.
Having attended HRTA for my first time on Sunday with TCOB I would say go there first. Paul is a decent bloke. The lads I met there (didnt get any names) were all great. I think they were 3 members of the The Ghosts. I have the KJW Beretta M92 full metal and it is a lovly gun. Just the problem is the gas, but Shiva now sells propane adaptors and you can get tanks of propane in B&Q and the likes. I also have the Galaxy MP5 PDW which is a great starter gun and have recently bought the DBoys M4 A4 RIS full metal.
All in all best go to HRTA first and check out some grar there.

Jesus, i didnt think it would be that expensive. How long is that for? Or is it a pay once for all day type thing?

Thanks for the welcome. Sorry but im not up with the lingo just yet :) Who are The Ghosts and TCOB? Im not exactly rolling in cash right now but will definately give HRTA a go soon enough. Will have to try and see if i can persuade a few friends to come along also :)

Also, if anyone is selling a cheap enough but fairly decent pistol (i mean around the 40-50euro mark) could you let me know. It could be a bit of time before i can afford a really good one so wouldnt mind getting a half decent one in the meantime for a bit of target practice. Gonna try and get out to HRTA also but it is a bit more costly than i thought so may not be for a few weeks.

Well that €45 is the fee for a whole days play and rental of the AEG, you also get ammo but I'm not sure how much. As for the €18 per 5000 BBs compare that to paintball which costs €10 per 100

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Ah yea, i didnt know you paid for a day. Thought it would be a few hours or something. Paintball does get very expensive as the day goes on alright.

Cost €100 on ammo alone the last ime I went :D my wallet prefers Airsoft

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

absolutely. im not exactly having baths in money these days so paintball wont happen for a long while. Airsoft would certainly be managable tho. Do you guys have airsoft days youselves where you meet up actually? Would like to go when some people could show me the ropes :)

It is our duty to help those around us take there first steps on the road to Airsoft bliss, we're kinda like Buddhists with machine guns :D

You know I'm beginning to think it might make a pretty good IAA T-shirt, you ready to put a retail section up on the site Dave? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Plagerised(is that a word?) in my sig.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭N.O.I.P.

Right just for that I reckon you should buy the first T-shirt :D

could be kinda cool, navy t-shirt, on the front just a yellow outline of your AEG of choice, and then on the back "we're kinda like Buddhists with machine guns"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭N.O.I.P.

I was thinking about having the IAA logo on the back and on the front something like
    Airsofters
    __________
    We're like
    Buddhists with
    Machine Guns

Or maybe the other way around, ah its just a thought anyway :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭tonyj_mc

havr to say i think i would buy one :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

You can have custom T-shirts made in front of you. Just print that out(Photoshop it:D ) and hand it in along with the fee (No idea of price). 1min later, bam, tshirt made.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭N.O.I.P.

Yup I know, was kind of a theme of mine a few years back they usually sot around €20, I'm actually wearing a custom one at the moment. I just think it would be cool if the IAA had our own T-Shirts that way whenever somebody bought one they would get a shiny new T-shirt and a warm fuzzy feeling from knowing that they were contributing to the IAA.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 306 ✭✭davvowl

if i had to wear a tshirt with it i'd somehow prefer "we're kinda like hippies with machine-guns"
    its less religion-related this way
    just my 2 cents :p

anyway, my wallet hates everything lately, but ill be at HRTA this saturday, and i might even be playing !
its a cqb site right ? so i wont get that dirty ? (i dont have any of my airsoft stuff with me here...)
at what time does it usually start ? is there a meeting time at the bus station or something ?
    *lost*

    +1 for tshirts.
Need to come up with a nice logo for it. like they did for the pantballer.ie ones.

As for captions, I still find

"Airsoft, the friendly way to shoot someone"

far less threatening or insulting than

"we're kinda like Buddhists with machine guns"

Davvowl has a point with the religion thing too. We could drum out a few more and have a poll about it or something.

I'd happily walk around wearing an IAA shirt anyway. Maybe have some
"what is airsoft?" pamphlets in my bag too just in case ;)

It's not 'just' a CQB site and if it's not pouring all day, we be skirmishing round the back, in which case you'll be in mud up to your ankles.

Start 10:30, no meeting or anything in town, but since it's my second outing there this Saturday after too long a break (had time to lose what little tan I had already  ), and since I'm a fellow batracien, n'est-ce pas , and in a good mood - I can probably sort you with a lift to HRTA Saturday morning :)

"Airsoft, the friendly way to shoot someone"

Thats better and not so offensive. Clould have a sillohette(Spelling:confused: ) of an M4/16 on the back and the Iaa one on the front or vice versa.

Could actually come up with several different selectable designs, dependent on your gun preference. Some people might rather an AK on their back than an Armalite. Then have whatever the caption is under that.

All the same colour for a bit of uniformity, with a small logo on the front.

    Done :D

Well the reason I chose Buddhists is because the religion is all about acceptance and the pursuit of enlightenment, I figured Airsoft is the same but we use machine guns.

Anyway I can understand that some people wouldn't want to wear it on a T-shirt so I won't press the issue but can we think up something better than "Airsoft: The friendly way to shoot someone" I've never been a big fan of it, we shouldn't be promoting Airsoft as an opportunity to shoot someone

I know what you mean. But I always found the 'friendly' in that took the punch out of 'shoot someone' to the point where it was actually okay.

    Maybe not.

I'm sure we can have a brain storming session sometime anyway. I'd be one for trying to stay away from sexual inuendos too. (Sorry Gandalf :P)
