Does anyone hate the way in this country, we are prohibted from owning fire arms? As ' democracy', we are entitled to own guns for our protection, but no, not in good ol' Eire. The thing which angers me is, that while the scumbags own guns in abbudance, we are just injured prey unable to defend ourselves. This needs to change in my opinion.

    What do you think?

    Are you even over 18?
Reason I'm asking is have you been turned down for a license and I don't think you're over 18 from other posts

Eh? Many households down the country have a shotgun. My oul lad has had a gun for years, if you can prove you are going to use them for hunting there is no problem.

After reading your post I wouldnt give you a licence tbh :D You honestly think you should be allowed to have a gun so as to fire into the distance on a densely populated Dublin street at fleeing burglars?

Padraig Nally, in the arsehole of nowhere, little chance of any bystanders being hit, if the crooks come a knockin fire away says I. But on a Dublin residential street the risk of a stray bullet going through a window and potentially catching someone is too high.

Your best bet is a booby trap in your hall way, knock them semi conscious, then proceed to the boiling water torture.....

Do you really want to shoot scumbags? Why not put the dirty hoors into forced labour and break their nasty streak of scumbaggery.. and yeh loads of people own a firearm... but not for the sole purpose of shooting a scumbag.

As ' democracy', we are entitled to own guns for our protection,

-There's nothing in our constitution about a right to bare arms as far as I know.

And to answer your question, no I dont hate that I am prohibited from owning a gun.

I have 2 guns, so there.
O.k My Dad was a gunsmith, that's why

Mic, No I'm not 18 until the end of August. I'm really misinformed on the issue of guns in Ireland, and the laws in which you can carry them. Are all guns legal as long as you can prove they are for hunting.

Can I have a walther p99 please for the purpose of ..*coughs* hunting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,969 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

Check out the shooting forum OP

Btw, we have 4 guns down home. In fact, a lot if not most farmers have them to shoot at crows damaging crops and more importantly to kill dogs attacking sheep.
Plus the local gun club outings too.

    Country living rules!

Since when was democracy intertwined with gun ownership??

Think you've been watching a bit too much TV lad

There are 3 guns at my parents house: 1 shotgun and 2 rifles from the civil war. I'm pretty sure the civil war guns don't have to be licensed as the only way you'd kill someone with them is by hitting them over the head or impaling them.

I have a double-barrelled shot-gun in the house. It's old but shoots fine.

OP, it seems like everyone has a gun but you...pftt, kids these days..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

It certainly seems this way. My parents would be outraged if I even brought up the issue. They're already concerned after I claimed that the death penalty isn't a bad as people make it out to be. A free meal full of everything you ever wanted...class.

Unless you live in the country and are a farmer with vermin to shoot you have no need for a shotgun/rifle and none whatsoever for a handgun.

You've been watching too many movies... Walther P99 indeed

    Anywho..............

OP, when you look at it the amendment in the US is not even valid for private citizens to own guns. It's for arming militia, and also outdated. 1791 in America is a whole different world than 2007.

Investigation after investigation shows that guns in the hands of citizens increases innocent deaths, not the other way around.

If you like guns so much join the airsoft crowd and when you're older ask your local super for a rifle licence and then move on to pistols and revolvers for sport.

    Join Special Branch.

I'm 22 and I own two guns since I was 19. Gun control is necessary. The US is a joke tbh, just not a funny one.

To anyone advising this fella to head over to the shooting forum he will just annoy them with stupid questions about guns he has seen in movies and ridiculous claims about democracy.

Get a pellet gun, much more fun:

"Can everyone please stop getting shot!"

I own a O/U shotgun for hunting and clays. I don't see why someone in a town or city should not be allowed own a gun. No matter where you live in Ireland the countryside is a short drive away. Of course it's important to own a good safe and have proper security if you do own one.

The OP does not sound mature enough to own a gun. But if he was to approach his local gun club with that attitude they would soon set him right. :)

Since various historical events shaped a particular country's constitutional law.

That country isn't this one, which has had different historical events.

Personally I do plan to get around to getting a license, so I can then get a temporary license when I'm visiting Denmark, so I can then shoot things, so I can then eat them.

Guns = Pheasant in ma belly! = Good.

For home defence though I'll just hit the ****er over the head with a sword.

As Chris Rock says: It's not gun control we need, it's bullet control.

I reckon the OP is trolling. But in case he's not...

As someone who's coming around to the idea of owning firearms for the purposes of hunting/sport, the attitude of the OP is worrying. I have to say, he may well be getting close to the age where he could legally acquire firearms, but I for one hope to god he doesn't.

As for encouraging him to get an airsoft gun, I wouldn't be in favour of that either. The guys in Airsoft will tell you that they have a bad enough reputation as it is without someone who fancies himself as a gansta/Rambo/whatever waving a BB gun all over the place. Even less so a paintball marker.

I reckon this OP is the biggest troll I've ever encountered. Who else could start one thread abusing Americans and at the same time start another celebrating their gun policies?

Agreed. No sane person could look at america and go "hey, I wish MY country was like that! drive bys ftw!!111"

Really? both the pro and anti gun lobby can point to extensive research and investigations that back up their stances. The issue is not clearcut

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

Wow, Im trolling? For God sake, there is a thread about how often people take a ****.

When did I bash Americans? I'm attacking the rich fake Americans who claim Irish heritage.

I hate when people do that accent, when portraying an American, it annoys the heck out of me. I hate when people call Americans stupid, obese etc.

Oh god. Seriously, I'm sorry but some of the people that come out of the Institute are worrying. I spent a year of my life in there and some of the things I heard....

You're 17 and you want a gun to go around shooting scumbags? Have you ever had any situation in which a gun would have come in useful to you? If you've been mugged it probably wasn't at gunpoint, which it would be if gun ownership laws were relaxed. Have a little think about what you're proposing here.
