Might aswell start this off. Anyone interested in beers after the Dubs V Derry game. Leave your name address and credit card details ;) I suppose same place again? Nice bar so why not eh?

Of course usual applies, u dont need to be Dublin or Derry to come. The more the merrier, but dress code will be in force! :)

I posted a thread last week about having one on Saturday, but no harm having another thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

I hope some of our Meath brethern show. I hope a lot of people show in fact, as there is something I want to tell people about, which only has a very loose GAA connection, and not especially relevant here. It is something important to me though, and which people here may be able to assist me with.

Lads I will be back tonight,so if anybody is coming give Nalced,Flukey or myself a PM.

On a side note,I think its sad that Flukey made the invitation to the Meath supporters and they didn´t take him up on it.I mean they had the numbers advantage so no excuses.Anyway, before and after or just after sounds good to me.Win,lose or draw,I will be in Madigans to meet the Boards crew for some real banter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

Just after will do. As usual, I want to get in early and sober. It's rare I go after either, unless I am meeting people. It's usually a case of going straight to Croke Park and straight back home. But I'll be there on Saturday after the game. So, all GAA people here, try and make it.

Madigans again? Will turn up this time. Well, actually turned up last time, but the place was packed (we stopped in Summerhill for a burger and chips) so we headed to Briody's and ended up drinking on the street.

Going to Messers as well.... but will have to have a food break in between.

I would go but I will be in Edinburgh at the rugby. The next time I will be in Ireland will when the All-Ireland Hurling final will be on, but I will be at Electric Picnic that weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

PopeBenny, we were in there for a good while and had seats. You should have come in.

Cruiserweight, you really need to get your priorities right!!!!:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,742 ✭✭✭blackbelt

Actually Madigans is the perfect venue. Was only a bit packed but after we met up it wasn't long until we got some seats and our own table. Its the most central pub in Dublin.

Anyway,us boardsies could make it our regular watering hole before and/or after the matches in Croker. It may become a big hit and ritual.

Absolutely, eventually we wont need to post it here. Will just be the obvious to go to Madigans afterwards ;) I dont know if ill be able to make it tho. After the game im hopping on a bus to Ashbourne with my camcorder to tear down some Meath flags. I may pop by Kildare also but they have probably taken them down already. Tyrone is too far to travel for it tho :D

    You mean like this Nalced:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DNfscY1Vg4

I'd actually love to see you and Blackbelt in the same room at the same time. Although I'm thinking it may be a challenge ;)

Was that not obvious? I thought it was suggested that i was refferring to that video. Why would you love to see me and BB in the same room?? Strange comment. Private joke between you and...em...you? All you have to do is show up for the beers and you will so not really a challenge. Doubt you would tho.

I have a feeling you and Blackbelt are a bit like Peter Parker and Spiderman ;)

No offence to any of the lads on here but why would I show up for beers? If I'm going to a match, I go with my group of friends that I go to all matches with, not a group of people from an internet messageboard.

If you wnat to meet me, I'll be in Quinns from half twelve on Sunday week :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Peter Parker and Spiderman?? I have a feeling your like Comicbook guy from the Simpsons....in more ways than one!

No offense, but you wont be missed at the beers. At least there we just yap about GAA and have a laugh but i have a feeling you would spend the whole day getting into arguements about things noone but yourself cares about. Plus we can talk about you easier if your not there :D:D

Well I've seen them and sat with them at the one table. The challenge is for you to do the same.

Spot on Flukey, did we look like the same person to you? Did I only ever show when BB went to the jacks and the likes? :D Lemlin is really clutching at straws here :D:D:D

Yes, they were both there together and in the company of others too. They are real Lemlin, and real different. In fact, in a way, Blackbelt could be addressing the other two of us as one! Put it this way, you'd need to be there. The invitation is always open.

Well, there is one danger: You might enjoy it. Meets, and I have been at an awful lot through various message boards, are fun. Also, having met us, you'd then have a larger group of friends that you could go to matches with! They are just two reasons. Come along sometime and you'll discover many more. As for Sunday week, I have my ticket for that already, so I'll be around.

Was wondering how long it wouild take someone to post that video here. Of course if it had been a Dublin fan doing it to a Meath flag....... yawn..... ;)

Lemlin, I just met Blackbelt for lunch, and Nalced_irl definitely was not there. :p

So you think, you didnt see me in the corner with the secret agent styled overcoat, hat and sunglasses :)

Btw Lemlin, Meathman and any others who we have frequent differences of opinion with here, if you do go to any of the Beer sessions, and there are alot of us Dubs there, dont think that you would be made feel unwelcome by us or anything like that. We dont meet up and have a live version of this site or anything, just have a few drinks and a bit of fun. Were not gonna start ganging up on a Whatever versus whatever arguement from here. Not saying you would be thinking that but just in case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,461 ✭✭✭popebenny16

Does that mean we cant throw bottles or umbrellas at them?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

I didnt say that popebenny, just once we do it one at a time. No ganging up :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,461 ✭✭✭popebenny16

    Why that's excellent news.

My cousin is a garda and he can hold my stash of weaponry (including my pet Axe - The Nobber Nobbin Basher) outside the ground for me.

I think a golf umbrella, although unwieldy, can inflict quite a bit of damage on an unsuspecting Meath/Louth/Cavan chap.

    Shall I bring a dozen?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Ill bring my auld Shinty stick. :) Anyone ever seen one of those? The Scottish Highlands game thats quite like Hurling, well, a mixture of Hurling and Hockey with the stick almost shaped like a 6 Iron or something. Ill tell ya, if you think Hurlers are hard, you should see what these guys can take!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,461 ✭✭✭popebenny16

Yes I remember shinty internationals being on the telly.

They were held in small remote parts of Scotland. I remember one Scottish fan on a small terrace farting and Lemin remarking that this was an obvious Dublin ploy to keep the entire terrace to himself. He may have been mixing up his blues though.

I did actually, but when I saw the high heels and the pink tights, I thought it wasn't you. Had they been blue, then I would have had you sussed. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

Well, yes, but just make sure they are empty first. If anyone grabs my pint glass to throw before I've finished drinking it, there'll be hell to pay! :)

Very true. We'd have good craic together. Rival GAA fans always do. It's one of the great things about our games amongst the real fans.

I wouldn't balme anybody for not going, there is such a love fest going on in this thread that I think the George or the Dragon may be more appropriate places for you guys to meet ;) I guess blue is the new pink :p

Played a game over there once, we took the team over and played a college team there - swapped sticks at half time so played with a shinty stick for the second half. I got a defenders stick so it came up to my chest! Mad yoke! Every time I swung I thought I was going to take someone's head off behind me...

Me too Galwayguy. A team came over and played us here and the same, at half time we played with shinty sticks and they played with hurls. I played corner back tho so got a smaller one. A few of their players got the bad end of wild swings but they can take them well i tell ya. I remember one of their players had blood pumping from his hand but didnt even stop for a second, just kept playing. Brave kids!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Ok, will we make it a solid plan for Madigans after the game again then? Just so everyone knows for sure. Anyone who wants to come and hasnt got any means of contacting us, PM me, blackbelt or Flukey id say and we can exchange mobile numbers. Maybe if we get enough eventually we can set up the first proper (that Mayo kids one was a joke) GAA firm. I always wanted to be in one since seeing The Football Factory :D The Dublin Drougs! :D:D:D:D:D

Joke btw about the firm ;)

I may bail into town for a few with you all if your meeting. Not going to the game (Dubs games are costing alot as it is, cant afford more) but will be watching and always good for a bit of atmosphere in town also. Let me know if you are meeting up and i might head in for a few also.

What a game and what a Boards Beers we had.We met PopeBenny16 for the first time and jaysus I tell you something lads, this guy is one hell of a joy to drink with and have a laugh .There was never a dull moment from the word go.

We all had sing a longs and drink. The craic agus ceol never stopped. We met other people who were with the boardsies and they are interesting people. After leaving Madigans at 8,we went down to Messrs for the General Boards.ie meeting and we had some more fun.Sadly,we were the only reps for the GAA forum and we bumped into the soccer forum members. Now,this conversation could only go one way and thats "who is better".We have started something here lads.GAA forum V Soccer forum.

It was agreed that we would both have a game of each code against each other. They have a team and a jersey which is impressive. So now I am urging a few boardsies here to stand up for GAA and make our team as we plot the demise of the soccer team.:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

I was thinking about the suggestion of having a we play Football and they play Soccer for a half and then switch...only one problem, well loads :) The soccer team could only footblock and so would have no chance as it would be free`s galore, once the footballers have the ball in hand, well, you cant really lose possession :) Would be great tho to play 2 games, one soccer and one football. I enjoy having unbroken limbs so i wouldnt want to play a group in Hurling that have never played before :)

Madigans was a great laugh. Even got up to do a song, theres the drink for ya! ;) Of course left out a verse but what can u do. Great buzz in that place. Messrs was great too. Nice food and good fun. BB, remember the "We got someone for you to meet" thing in Messrs? That was funny. :D You really were thinking the worst for that one :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,742 ✭✭✭blackbelt

Hehe, that wasn't Lemlin by the way.I was rubbing my hands in delight when I thought it was him and you said no comment.Ruggiebear, did we give you too much of a hard time?Poor aul Flukey,I think he drove home his points but sadly to the wrong man.pity Kaimera wasn't there.

The Pope will post the pics up later.

Well,I've no access to soccer forum but we need to assemble our team and get things going.I made the thread and will contact the mods to extend the invitation to their forum.I have plans for this forum to be more interactive and to actually expand the reps that are only sadly confined to Dublin at this stage.I'm starting my own personal training and the target is to lose a stone.

We have 3-4 of the possible starting 15 but I expect some PMs to come my way hopefully.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

I put your post on the Boards Soccer Teams forum also. I made one rule tho. All GAA rules go for Soccer also. IE, one punch is a warning, as is 2, 3, 4 and maybe, just maybe a 5th punch is a yellow card. 14 is a red ;) Look forward to seeing the pics. Dont think we gave Ruggiebear too much, it was all in good fun anyway :) Would be good to get a team to play regular games actually. Plan in the next while to get back into hurling again so the more training and exercise i get the better.

Bloody hell!!! I'm a more have a pint and a bag of chips at half time merchant myself.

Seriously though, those soccer lads look, erm..... fit and athletic. Last serious GAA game I played was in the football/hurling blitzes in DIT many moons ago. We'll have to trash out compromise rules and also some form of handicap system lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,742 ✭✭✭blackbelt

I have the weight a big GAA player would have but I wanna trim down a bit and get faster.I started a new job in February and the last time I was super fit was back in March/April.The soccer players look real fit.we'll need to match them in this department if we are to stand a chance in the soccer, otherwise,we'll have the advantage in GAA with our physical stance.:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Jesus, im possibly at one of the most unfit stages i have ever been in. Gotta start doing some jogging and sh*t again to get back in shape. Could do with losing about 3 stone also!
