Can you please give me some indication of the salary of a fitness instructor/personal trainer on board a cruise ship and an outline of how a basic week goes and how many hours you have off each week and how much time you have off once a ship docks?

The only way you will get answers to these questions is to have a search around various job search engines dude.

Just like any job, the salary will differ depending on who you work for, your experience etc.....just like any job the benefits, hours, and off time will all vary depending on the employer.

i doubt you would be making more money working on a cruise ship than you would in your current job working as a personal trainer in a gym here. working on a cruise ship is more about the fun and craic than the money, normally minimum wage.

what kinda of craic is there to be had, anyone have experience?

I looked into working on a cruse ship before (as an entertainer ) standard procedure is that your pay go’s directly into an offshore bank account (the company help you set this up ) you don’t pay any tax on it because you are in international waters , however if you want to bring it back to Ireland you are the person responsible for making sure any taxes that have to be paid are paid .

The minimum wage does not apply to people with a skill that is sought after (I.E hairdresser , fitness instructor or stage performers) most company’s advertise on jobsites or their own sites the first thing you should do is go down the travel agents and get some brochures decide where to go and the make contact with the company’s human recourse department

Even though I think the OP maybe nuts, actually I think the vast majority of people here are nuts especially the ones that I have actually met.

However that aside, even if you do think the OP is nuts it is a valid question that probably quite a few people maybe interested in so, they are valid in posting it here

I might as well ask how much being an astronaut pays for all the relevance the OP's question has to reality.

Well Degsy the salary isn't great but the endorsements are good, like this one time on a spacewalk, Coca Cola gave me $200,000 for saying, "Man, I had a Pepsi before I came out here and now I think I'm gonna throw up". And another time instead of a tube of beef stew, I squirted a tube of KY Jelly into my mouth on a live broadcast to primary schools around the world. KY gave me $500,000 for that, but then had to withdraw it due to the ensuing controversy.

I believe i made a post a few weeks about folk commenting on this particular OP's post. At the time i said if you have nothing helpful to post then don't.

I can't see anyone above who is entitled to judge another persons post content.

Now then, if this happens again, by anyone TO anyone, it's a banning.

The report function is there if you don't like a post for any reason. Use it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

To be fair Dragan, the same could be said about anyone here, including yourself.

When someone posts up their diet on here and it's below par, they get a torrent of condescending, deriding comments. Especially when they continue to question things or- heaven forbid- they DOUBT some of the things they're being told.

Nobody on this forum is entitled to judge anyone's content- not even the moderators as there are very few highly qualified fitness professionals, no dieticians that I can see, and yet when someone comes on and says "I ate crap but still lost weight" a couple of days ago, a lot of people got straight on their high horse.

The amount of times people looking for genuine advice and help who have just got "ohmigod why don't people just read the stickies" responses, as though the replier was at the peak of their physical prowess, or a person who could professionally turn around and say that they've trained and coached people to a better physical condition, is unbelievable.

Roper , i am not talking about advice, or opinions about different strategies or anything like that. I am talking about the really annoying habit that people have or picking on this particular OP and frankly it is starting to hack me off.

It's really that simple, to be honest.

I worked as a fitness trainer at sea in 2001. I know its a while ago but I'm sure some of the details still apply.

I worked for Steiner - trained in London for about 10 weeks - selling techniques etc. (not as a trainer, already qulaified) I didnt get paid for the training. You basically wait for a suitable ship to need a trainer.

I worked 5.5 days per week from 7 am - 7 pm with a 2 hour lunch. Pretty easy during the day cos passengers are ashore. sea days are very busy.

Got paid 200 dollars per week plus commission plus tips. clearing 350 per week easily.

Craic was great - cre bar open all night, cheap beer. Lunch in different ports etc.

You need to be lucky though, they will send you anywhere. Some people get LA to mexico which is the same 3 ports for your whole contract (usually 8 months) some people get to go on a round the world trip - luck of the draw.

    I'd recommend it big time.

    Fully disagree.

It's funny that the first line abotu him "pissing you off" and being a "trouble maker" are criticisms people have leveled against you too.

It's the internet. People can be a$$holes over nothing. And when you consider your prior history (regardless the fact you're attempting to turn over a new leaf), is it really all that surprising.

Lots of people have got p!ssed off at your old posts. Lots of DIFFERENT people. Do they all have a problem? Or maybe, just maybe it might be some of the things you've said that has cause their reactions?

the matter has been dealt with juan see dragans post

id suggest skipping right down to the davestators post which actually bumped the thread in the first place as he answered your op exactly

I have no problem with anybodys opinions or posts on this board, people are going to have different opinions the thing I have a problem with are the repeated personal attacks and snide remarks.

I have never made a personal attack on anybody on these boards but Im constantly getting them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 496 ✭✭juanveron45

I just dont get it, It seems that theres such a buddy buddy system going on here that if I said that grass was green, water was wet and if someones buddy disagreed then everyone else would disagree.

I have asked countless different questions about numerous different things and this, a resource for information is where im getting slated for asking questions or giving opinions.

The vast majority of people here arent fully qualified to answer questions on numerous different things but they still do, and are they slated or given a hard time?

to anyone that doesnt like or doesnt want to answer my posts, its a free country, so dont read them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 496 ✭✭juanveron45

Locking my posts kinda vindicates me , I mean if I was in the wrong people would want to say it

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

...so by locking the thread and not giving them an opportunity to respond it proves you're right?

Screw this, I'm going training. You done much recently Juan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,639 ✭✭✭PeakOutput

your not in the wrong the people slating you are in the wrong no doubt about it but you keep going on about it when its been dealt with so you are not in the right either.

it is the interwebz you are going to get slated over something be a big boy and suck it up or follow the rules and report the posts im more bored of the everyone is getting at me posts then your original questions because there is a solution to it

thread/post reported not against juan just the situation in general something needs to be done about all these thread descending to stupidity either ban the antagonists(some have been already) or tell juan to come back when hes on his way to his goal
