Wearing a watch

So, what arm do you wear your watch on?

I'm lefthanded and used to always wear my watch on my right wrist.
Of course, the rumour going around school was that wearing a watch on your right means you're gay. I think there is something similar for guys wearing earrings.

I'm not gay but rather than face ridicule I tried wearing a watch on my left but couldn't get used to it as it just felt awkward and unnatural. Gave up wearing a watch years ago and now just use my mobile.

Sorry, because you wear a watch on one hand you're gay? I remember hearing the earring rumour but that's just hilarious.

I wear mine on my right hand and I'm right handed. Always have.

If you paid any attention to that kind of crap you're worse than the people spreading the "rumour", tbh.

Haven't worn a watch in a couple of years now.

I thought sticking one's cock up another man's arse meant you're gay. Silly me.
I just use the mobile. I keep meaning to get a watch...

Is this thread really about watches or are you trying to find out who's gay?

I have a somewhat fluctatous relationship with watches, I lost one very valuable one once, then for my 19th birthday I recieved 3 (one from my ex, the parents and sis in the states). Two of those are gone, my bro got me one for my 21st but its too valuable to wear for everyday use.

I wear the other one on my left

I thought most people wore their watch on their left arm as the majority are right handed? A watch on your writing arm feels awkward.

I wonder what the % decrease in watch sales has been like since mobile phones have risen in popularity?

Actually no, I don't really give a damn.

If I wear a watch then I wear it on my left wrist, cos I'm right handed. Incidentally, my watch stopped yesterday, and I'm probably not gonna bother getting a new one, because I can just use my phone.

I wear it on my left and I'm predominantly lefthanded. Accessing any buttons on the rightside of the watch always seemed very awkward whenever I wore it on my right wrist. I suppose, ideally, I'd like a watch with the dial etc. on the leftside of the watchface, so I could wear it on the right wrist. *Goes looking to find such a creature *

I'm right handed and wear mine on my left arm too. Hate taking it off, it just feels wrong when you don't wear a watch.

Me sentiments exactly, right handed and wear watch on right wrist. Just doesnt feel right if I dont wear it.

One time I was too lazy to go to the jewellers to get a new battery for my watch when it died.......but still I wore it, you can image the awkwardness when asked the time, 'well emmm.......its ehhhh :o '

I don't consider a watch a bejeweled object. It sure as hell doesn't make a guy gay.

I think it might work the other way round as well ...

Right-handed, wear watch on left wrist.

Why am I even answering this?

    I use the sun.
It's kind of hard of late as I rarely leave the house.
I hear it's been raining a fair bit too.

Also, as someone said on the previous page, I'm a man and I don't wear jewellery.

A friend of mine used to wear his watch on his ankle, just for the laughs he got when people asked him the time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

I am left-handed but I wear my watch on my left wrist so as not to stand out.

I also wear clothes and have sex with women for the same aforementioned reason.

    +1

I have 2 or 3 really expensive watches i've gotten as presents over the years but they are sitting on a shelf in my wardrobe.

Right handed, watch on left wrist. Always wear one. Have a few. All tick too, none of this newfangled battery nonsense. There's something reassuring about winding a watch in the morning. I accept I'm weird.:D

Also looking at a phone is generally too much bother. It's why the wristwatch took over from the fob/pocket watch in the first place. The phone is the pocket watch of today. The wristwatch is not around for very long either. Early 1900's, usually for women as it was considered too feminine for men and really only took off for men after WW1(because of convenience in warfare compared to taking out a fob watch). Early aviation and the need for accurate watches spurred it on too. Judging by many here it seems that now it's going more out of fashion and is more jewelry than function. I suppose as well that time is everywhere now. Phone's PC's cars etc. The need for a personal timepiece is less of a need than anytime in the past.

BTW men have pretty much always worn jewelry or adornment of some nature or other. It's not going to get you accused of being the ghay you know.;)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I don't wear a watch, I haven't worn one in over 10 years. I find them too constricting, especially when playing bass. :)

left handed and wear a watch on my left wrist.

don't wear it when working for fear of it getting scratched and it's kind of restrictive. i also don't wear it during college written exams as they are only 90 minutes long and need to write tons and the watch just gets in the way. it's grand for light writing though.

right handed, right wrist. Watches are magnificent. Anyone who doesn't wear one isn't a real man.

Wristwatches annoy me. Too tight, and they irritate my skin; too loose and they flop around.

I used to carry a pocket watch, but it stopped. I got a new (?) one in an antiques shop the other day, and I'm hoping to get both of them repaired in the near future.

When I had a watch I wore it on my right hand but I just use my phone now.

I hate using my phone for that, its too much effort to dig it out of my pocket.
Wrist watches are so much more convenient for lazy people like me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭Hermione*

I've worn a watch nearly every day since I was six years old (I'm right-handed and wear it on my left arm), I feel completely lost without it. I could never understand how people managed in classes like double maths without a watch to count down the minutes until it was over. I don't always have my phone about my person so I need to have my watch.

    Har Har.

I hate having anything around my wrists. It's horrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,133 ✭✭✭Sarn

I wear it on my left hand and I'm lefthanded. Comes in handy deflecting darts, shurikens etc. from ninjas. Oh and telling the time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,673 ✭✭✭Miss Fluff

    Never wear one.

Right handed and wear my watch on my left wrist, of course !!

On a side note, i wonder how many people that dont wear a watch are tardy ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,028 ✭✭✭anthony4335

I wear a watch every day. Would feel lost without one. However the weird thing is that I always take it off when I sit down at home and work. Cannot type with it on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

I've worn a watch since I was 7, always on my left wrist. Any day I forget to put it on I always feel weird, keep looking at my naked wrist.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,484 ✭✭✭JIZZLORD

i always wear a watch, i've been wearing crappy cheap plastic casio watches since i was young. i dont use my phone for timekeeping as i see it as being unprofessional if i was to whip out my phone.

The argument about jewellery is stupid, you can pick up a decent non showy watch for next to nothing.
