    Right folks.. Here we go..
    RWC-Entry.xls

    1. I declare these be the rules...

    Scoring:

Select the team you think will win each game and for Group Stage games, write in the margin you think they will win by.
If you think the game will be a draw then place one of the teams name in the winning team box and 0 in the winning margin.
Please note If the game does not finish a draw, points will only be awarded on the team name placed in the winning team box.

Points for the Group Stage games will be awarded as follows, ONLY if you pick the winning team.

    Exact Margin 20 pts
    1 - 5 points out 10 pts
    6 - 10 points out 5 pts
    11 - 15 points out 2 pts
16 or more out 0 pts

Points for the Knockout Stage will be awarded based on the number of teams that are correctly predicted to go through at each stage.

    Quarter Finalists 20 pts each
    Semi Finalists 50 pts each
    Finalists 75 pts each
    Overall winner 100 pts

    Scoring Examples:

    Group Stage:
New Zealand V Portugal. Prediction: Portugal to win by 29. Actual score New Zealand 3 - Portugal 32. (actual score predicted). 20 pts.
South Africa V USA. Prediction: South Africa 0 (i.e. a draw). Actual score South Africa 16 - USA 9. (7 points out). 5 pts.

    Knockout Stage:
Quarter Finalist predicted: USA, Tonga, Wales, Japan, Romania, Scotland, Ireland, Namibia.
Actual Quarter Finalists: USA, Tonga, Canada, Wales, New Zealand, Italy, Ireland, Namibia.

    5 correctly predicted = 100 pts.

    Group Tables:

The tables are automatically generated based on the predictions entered. They are scored 2 pts for a win, 1 pt for a draw.
It is up to each person to ensure they predict the results that sees their preference of Quarter Finalist progress from the group stage.

    Finally…

In the event of a draw - a count back of the number of exact predictions at group stage will determine the winner.
If there is still a tie - a count back of 10pts scored, 5pts scored, etc. will determine the winner.
Incomplete or incorrect entries will not be accepted. Don't forgot your name!!!
A weekly update of scores will be posted - it is up to you to ensure your score is correct.
There may still be a few bugs in the spreadsheet - so if you notice anything let me know a.s.a.p. :)

    2. I'm not 100% sure that the spreadsheet can be attached as a PM - so if you send me a PM to let me know you want to play, then I can forward on my e-mail address for you to send the entry.

    3. Anyone who doesn't have access to Excel - let me know and we'll work something out.

    4. Closing date September 6th at 5:00 p.m.

Have fun, and spread the word.. :)

    Looks interesting!

I like the new format of doing selecting winners the whole way through before the tournament starts - more challenging, gives an idea of potential fixtures and means that you'll have a team to cheer on through all the matches!

Now my only problem is...If Ireland get a tough draw do I go with my head or my heart?! At the moment, France v Ireland is blank :) a) because it is tough to call b) because even if France were much better than Ireland, I would still be hesitant!!!

An ideal would be to put Ireland all the way to the Final and for them to get there!

    Good work though!!!!!

    🤪

How do I remove the password/encryption on it? When I go to open it, it says "open the document in the application where it is saved, then remove the password/encryption." But how to do this is the problem.

Irish Wolf - this looks like a really great spreadsheet and format.

Do you have any objection (considering the work you've put in) to people using this for sweeps outside of boards? i.e. would you mind if I forwarded it on to a few friends and colleagues to use for our own little sweep?

    hey Irishwolf,
looks great il give it a shot and pass it on to some rugby heads who are abroad for the Cup this year.

Hmmm.. not too sure about that - I've only got a regular spreadsheet protection password on it - no encryption..

Try it again Mushy - and if you can't get it working PM me and I'll forward one without the password set..

Yup - no problem.. I'm working on a master spreadsheet that will contain all the predictions and do the calculation of points automatically.. So if you wait a week or so, maybe that'll be more useful..

Fantastic - if you wouldn't mind posting it when you're ready with it, that'd be great. thanks!

Tough one to call :D.. When you've figured out the winner - send on your entry...

Don't worry - I'll allow as many changes as you want up to the 6th Sept.. just in case O'Driscoll or Habana get flattened in any warm-ups..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭Irish Wolf

Hmmm.. another little gremlin in the spreadsheet - the drop down list for the knock-out stages didn't appear to be working but I've sorted it now..

If you've already saved a copy of the entry - there's no need to update it... I'll review each entry as it comes in anyway..

Does this work the other way around? If you predicted a win by 5 points and it finishes a draw, do you get the points?

It does indeed.. If a game ends in a draw - people will get points for either team provided they are within the 15pt limit..

    Great work Irish Wolf.

Do you want us to email our entries to you or what?
I have France to beat Ireland in the final! I followed my heart in the QF against the All Blacks.

    :(

Spotted another little bug in the spreadsheet - it won't affect anything provided you haven't predicted a draw for the any of the final 3 group games..

Any entry I've recieved so far thankfully doesn't have this scenario - but just in case any of you are thinking along those lines.. then please use this updated version of the entry..

    RWC-Entry.xls

If one of our friendly moderators could update the attachment in post #1 as well, it should avoid any further confusion :)

There is indeed - but for the sake of making my life easier when coding up the form - I made an executive decision to ignore the bonus points for the sweep.. ;)

I'll PM you my email address now..
