    Hey all.
After the Gym i'll always eat the likes of can of tuna, chicken breast, cottage cheese and so on. But should i be taking in more carbs to help my body recover better? I'm normally home after the gym around 10/10.30 if that makes a differance and i have 3 scoops of R.A.M in the gym.
While im at it, is it alright to have a bit of pasta before the gym for energy or should i try get it from a differant source?

    Thanks in advance.
    Vinnie.

After exercise for about 2 hrs your carb tolerance will be quite high so you can get away with some carbs with no major bad effect jsut don't go mental on them

U don't give your current stats or goals, but after training the standard would be roughly 40-80grams of simple carbs with 20-40grams of protein, the ram that your takin would cover both, as regards the pasta before training, depending on the type of pasta, it is probably a complex carb, so i would go for a simple carb again with some protein to keep your body in a anabolic state while training

Relying solely on simple carbs you run the risk of crashing half way thru.

Beforehand, something like oatmeal (porridge) is good, afterwards go for a whey and glucose shake.

I think everyone's over thinking it way too much here. I jsut make sure I have a meal, some meal, anything within about 90 mins of hitting the gym. On days that I know will suck I use Xplode II sometimes as well.

    I totally agree here.

Porridge is not the best choice pre workout, the pre and post workout meal/shake are usually the same, SIMPLE carbs are best at both times, dextrose is a cheap option that can be bought at most supplement stores, again it depends on your individual goals, when i was trying to increase size i would have a large white bagel with jam and 20grams of whey protein before training and after i would have two large white bagels with jam and 40grams of whey

Simple carbs.. aka fast release aka instant energy? Instant energy doesn't last long, and when it fades you crash due to an insulin spike. I don't know about you but I'm not sure crashing half way thru training is the best way to go about things...

Besides, a bagel and some dextrose are COMPLETLY different, so oyu're not even following your own advice??

they are both simple carbs, if you read it properly ul c the point i made, what i used to have is a very standard pre/post workout meal used by alot of people, look it up

First off, it's hard to read things like the above "properly".

Secondly, to compare something like a bottle of lucozade to a bagel just isn't right.

I should have a day off from what, correcting wrong advice?

Do you actually think it would be the correct course of action for me to ignore and not correct something that I knew was fully wrong?

Should I just have ignored it in the hopes that people would know better?

What if they interpreted it to mean a bagel could be replaced by glucose or dextrose at ANY time during the day?

Also, jsut because the masses do something doesn't make it correct. I would imagaine those with any know how would have preceeded their pre-workout simple sugar shake with a more complex carb form 60-90 minutes before to enjoy the best of both worlds.

There are 2 things I really hate when it comes to fitness/weightloss/training; over complications and blanket statements. Saying a bagel is the exact same as lucozade falls under the latter.
