Headache after workout?

Does anyone know what causes this?

Sometimes after a workout, particularly when I've done some weights, I get a headache. It's always located at the back of my head down into the top of my neck, and is pretty sore!
I thought it might be dehydration, but I drink a lot of water. I'm not lifting particularly heavy weights either.
The very odd time it happens after running too.

I'm female and quite fit, go to the gym twice a week and do martial arts training twice a week.

    Any ideas?

Two things it think it COULD be.1)You're clenching your teeth and jaw when lifting and affecting the muscles in your neck.2) you could be low on glycogen and need to eat more carbs before your workout.Just my 2c worth.

I agree with what Degsy said about clenching your teeth while lifting.

This might sound a bit ridiculous but are you holding your breath while lifting ? This can lead to headaches and slight dizziness. I used to do this, only breathing every 2-3 reps and didnt even realise I was doing it until someone else pointed it out to me.

After swimming continuously for approx 20 minutes I usually get a headache. I put this down to incorrect breathing technique - gradually starving myself of more and more oxygen.

Take a few deep breaths between each set. Drink a lot of water. Eat pasta 2.5 hours before the gym.

    Thanks guys!
I don't think it's the teeth clenching (not an attractive look for a laydee!!)
It could well be the lack of carbs. I'll stock up on some pasta or similar before I head to the gym and see if it makes a difference.

lack of oxygen for sure I'd say

regular headache sufferer (is that even a word?) here and if I have a mild headache running or lifting weights will turn it into a thought destroying thumper of a headache.

For the next few sessions concentrate on correct breathing as the lads above have said, are you a smoker?

    Do you lift to failure?

Are your hedaches accompanied by severe DOMS?

I'm a non smoker and my blood pressure is perfect, had it checked only recently.
I don't always lift to failure, and what is DOMS?

Either women who tie you up and whip you or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness;)

    Aha! Thanks for that!
Now you mention it, I often get delayed soreness, but I had put that down to being walloped at karate. I do a lot of stretching, so dunno why I get that soreness.
Not likely I'd let a woman tie me up and whip me... maybe George Clooney.:D

Release your air while you're lifting. I've seen people pass out from not doing this.

It's something I battle with a lot still.

I very much doubt it's a lack of carbs.

Are you drinking enough water water before, during and after all your training sessions?
