Upper body - body mass

    Playing GAA, need more upper body mass for tackling purposes in football ,but have the twin objective of staying fast for striking a sliothar in hurling. Anyone any advice on what to do?

    The real power comes from your legs. Upper body mass means jack sh!t if you haven't got strong legs and a strong core.

    Yeah, it amuses me to hear GAA commentators going on about some player's "tremendous upper body strength". Now he may well have upper body strength but a solid base from leg/hip strength is also vital for any sport that is played standing up. In sports as diverse as rugby, golf, boxing, archery the lower body comes into play.

    Anyway if you do want to increase upper body mass the big exercises are
    Bench
    Military press
    Bent over row
    (weighted) Chin up

    Id throw in Deadlift there too.

    Olympic Lifts if you can get someone qualified to show would be very good.
