Befanis in Clonmel near the Main Guard is great. A tapas bar with a fabulous desert menu!

Noel Ryans in Thurles does pretty nice food during the day. Think it's usually between 12 and 2 that they serve food.

    Cheers

Yes, I'd agree with Murphy's in Templemore.

Shanahans Resturant in Borrisileigh is also good.

    Roots in Nenagh.

Fiarci House is a very good Restaurant - but its out in the countryside between Templemore and Roscrea.

Actually, Nenagh is getting full of restaurants, bistros and sandwich bars. Roscrea is falling way behind (but is much smaller)

    some reccommendations....

Cafe Hans (during the day) and Chez Hans (night time) in Cashel
Lilly Mai's in Thomastown - although a little drop in standards and rise in prices on our last visit

The Pepper Mill in Nenagh - good, lots of fish on the menu

I second these even though it has been a while since I've been in either the last time I was in Cafe Hans or Chez Hans they were excellent.

    Cheers

Galileo in Clonmel, great for Italian food.
Devanes, Irish Town, Clonmel also have great food. Love their chicken goujons!!
Sean Tierneys, Clonmel, have lovely home made meals!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,023 ✭✭✭Meathlass

For that special occasion The Old Convent in Clogheen is wonderful. You can even stay the night. The 8 course tasting menu has something for everyone and no choices to make. They are really good for vegetarian food also.
I agree Befanis is good both for evening and indeed for elevenses.
Bumbles still does a fine dinner.
    Catalpa has very good Italian.
    Niamh's good value for lunch.
Try Spice Planet for take away Indian and Ming in Parnell St for Chinese.
    Yes I like my food.:D

I was going to start this thread and was happily surprised to find that it already exists !

    Planet Spice, Mary Street, Clonmel

A new-ish Indian place in town with which I was very impressed when I eat there last Xmas. Place was clean, service fast and menu had a large choice.

Had a starter, main course and 2 beers (Tiger) for €20.

I beliebe they have a buffet on Sunday afternoons.

I second that. Top class food, good service and great setting. A bit on the dear side but well worth it for a special occasion or just a slap up meal.

It's just off Main St., up a pathway between the newsagents (not sure if Cathleen has changed the name since she bought it, used to be Greenes) and Kissanes Pharmacy, across from Kiely's pub/ Industria and Joy clothes shops. It used to be called The Stables before she took it over. It's on the same block as Footsteps, MacBurger and Paddy Powers. If you're coming along Main St. from the Limerick Rd. it's on the left side of the road, but not visible from street level. If you're coming along Main St. from the Cashel side it's on your right. If you need more details, PM me.

P.S. Oldboy, if you ever want to know something related to something I've said and I haven't responded to your post within a day or two, PM me. I'm not always on this board, but I'm on Boards at least every few days.

La Seranta in Roscrea has pretty nice Italian food, no wine licence but you can bring your own without any problem....
It's on the riverside just up from the chineese, used to be owned by the same people who own fiacra house if i'm not mistaken...

O' Gormans pub in Bohernacrusha (Holycross, Thurles), they do daily lunches and Sunday dinners 12.30?-3.30, have eaten there a few times over the last few weeks and would highly recommend it.

The Fairways Bar & Orchard Restaurant used to be known as Lucky Bags, based in Kilruane just 3 miles outside of Nenagh (Near Nenagh Golf Club on the Nenagh Cloughjordan road). They have a great menu (bar and evening) and extensive fish menu. They have just become a member of the BIM Seafood Circle.

The lunch menu is excellent value with dishes at circa €9, then they have the bar menu and restaurant menu - all on their website

    http://thefairwaysbar.ie/

In my opinion this is the best restaurant for miles around nenagh and I have been to a good few in Tipp

you can view the menus at http://thefairwaysbar.ie/menus/

Agreed...good, simple, authentic Italian dishes. Nothing too fancy or overly complicated.

But don't bother with their takeaway service...we've given up with it completely...after several "one more chance" orders...I don't think we've *ever* brought home what we ordered on the phone...and even when I've gone in, ordered at the counter, and waited...its been wrong....don't know why they can't get that right, or maybe I'm just unlucky!

    Not sure about that though?

Special Meals (Money to spend) in order of priority. Tipp and surrounds.

Old Convent Clogheen (stay the night, best rooms and very large baths ..... very rosemantic!!). Special food, no choice outside of veggie or not. Loved it.
Inch House - Lovely people working there, great food, never been so full in my life.
Fiachrai House - First time I ever tasted Bailey's and toblerone cheesecake, will never forget it!
Chez Hans - For an expensive restaurant the service is so bad. They still can't figure out who ordered what and it makes me laugh when they arrive out and shout, who ordered the duck??? Tasty food though.
Bishops Buttery - I got a steak in the Bishops buttery (cashel palace) that I won't forget in a hurry, plus I love the decor. For some reason it doesn't match Chez Hans.

    Italian:
DeEnzo's in Urlingford (near Tipp), lovely service and lovely restaurant and not too expensive. Owned and run by true Italians. Beats any of the Italian's in Clonmel or anywhere else I've been in Tipp hands down.

Hearty Food/Everyday Food - Not too expensive:
Tara restaurant in Thurles. Just try their raspberry cheesecake merangue and you'll see what I mean. Lovely service in there also.
Four Sea's Thurles. Nicest oriental cuisine and best service.

I think Clonmel is the biggest opportunity for a really good class restaurant. Lots of industry and no place to take people out when you go to visit. Clifords opened a restaurant for a while, but man that was the funniest place I've ever been. Never been so embarrassed at a mean with visitors in my life!! Closed down, but no replacement. Any good chefs out there looking for an opportunity need to look up Clonmel!!!

Inch House is hard to beat, a huge feed and the quality and service is second to none

I cannot believe noone mentioned Mulcahys in Clonmel! I actually live almost an hour away but treat myself and my little girl to lunch here every few months. The food is devine, huge selection and the staff are so friendly and well mannered. They really ensure that you receive the best service. It's just a fab place to eat, really great happy atmosphere there also. *Drools*

In Mulcahys on St Patricks Day, lovely meal.

A lot of different restaurants in Clonmel would be interested in more experiences.

I'm not a huge Chinese food fan but the new one in Irishtown is quite nice, have been there twice recently and found it to be very tasty... Much more so that the other ones..

Bumbles have been doing the Credit Crunch Lunch. Tenner for main and starter. Outstanding value, as cheap as a sandwich in other places. Plenty of choices for mains. Soup or wings to start.

Best restaurant in Tipperary must be The Old Convent in Clogheen. Must be close to Michelin standard, Eight course menu only. Well worth a trip out there although if you are planning for a special occasion, stay if you can. The luxury is sumptious and the welcome is unique. We go there for every anniversary and never leave disappointed.

Surprisingly I had an absolutely excellent meal in the Lemon Tree restaurant in Grants Hotel Roscrea. I wasn't expecting much but the decor, service and most importantly the food were all top notch, despite the fact that it was mother's day (when restaurants usually throw up any old muck).
Highly recommend it if you're looking to eat in Roscrea.
