Oh back in the days when Sparkles were 10p, and Mr Freeze's were around 7p, what was your favourite Ice-Pops. I remember when 20p was a fortune going to the shop, as for a pound you were well and truly minted. You'd see all the rich kids eating Magnums and Soleros in the Summer (they were all new and mega expensive, like 90p for an ice-pop, were they mad??), we might have stretched to an aul Calippo or Tangle Twister!!! Mostly Fat Frogs or Sparkles though!! How about all of you??

Captain Quenchers for 10p. Did the job... back then.

Although, Dunnes Stores' current own brand Orange Juice Ice Lollies are the best.

    I loved Mr. Freezes.
    Anyone remember JRs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,863 ✭✭✭✭crosstownk

I remember Little Angels and Red Devils were only 3p  It was hit and miss as to whether or not you got a chocolate covered top or not.

I also remember Hiawatha ice pops - ice cream in the shape of an American Indian's head. Weird.

OOOhhh loved JR's and Rockets (have loads of rockets in the fridge). HB used to have this green ice cream in a tub with sprinlkes from around 1984 can anyone remember what it was called. My favourite was chilly willies in orange and raspberry (made by HB)

Wibbly wobbly wonders, a feast or those ice creams shaped like feet. :) Couldn't afford Magnums or any of those fancy ones, I remember when they used to cost around 1 pound!

Does anyone remember the two tone mr freezes ya could get, they were massive, the red and green one's were lush!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,026 ✭✭✭Amalgam

Anyone remember one called a milk-pop or something similar, NOT vanilla, was basically a plain white circular ice pop with a fairly odd milky flavour thing going on.

JR's, weren't they 'shot' through with blackcurrent blotches?

The Rocket one was my favourite - it was such a treat!

The shop near our school used to sell melted mr freezes and there was hugh demand for them on hot days. Always preferred them frozen myself.

Also remember golly bars with non-pc packaging being sold well into the nineties.

Anyway, "blood red" on the inside with a black outside....

Oh yeah, another vote for the Loop the Loop.
Was it those that had the plastic sticks that you could interlink and "make stuff" ?

I always used to get an icepop that was just vanilla icecream in a big thick wedge, can't for the life of me remember the name but it was yummy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

    porky pigs, those lemonade ones

I recently discovered them in a corner shop and I walk about 3 miles to get one

recently I discovered these orange ones with chocolate on top, and they are then single greatest ice pops of the 21st century

Does anyone remember Kojak ice pops? About 1979-1981?

They were black and that was about the only Kojak reference apart from the label on the package!

The best name ever was an Australian one called Golden Gaytimes. When we were down there we were all old enough that we shouldnt have found it funny, but still did. The crazy kids down there must be laughing all day long.Taste like Brunches.Great.

Super Splits are nice too. I used to love Wibbly Wobbly Wonders. Saw a multipack in Tesco the other night. I'll stock up next time:)

Was always partial to a Feast myself (and the Mint one too mmmmmmm).

Did anyone else's parents seem to only know 2 types of ice-pop? Whenever we'd be out of a Sunday the Da would ask if I wanted a choc ice or an orange split. That was it. Never any other choice.

I think I might have gotten a Brunch once by mistake.
