^^^ did you not play that very passive for a river shove? I think he only folds a draw there surely?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,394 ✭✭✭robinlacey

a good player would realise i played this very passively and didn't have much, but someone who bets the same amount as the preflop raise on every street isn't a good player and is also likely very weak and has a hand with very marginal showdown value.

plus i just couldn't bring myself to fold to such a weak bet there...

just busted out of the stars warmup, guy tries to steal blinds from button i move in with the big A6 off and the big blind wakes up with QQ, nice hand sir!

that sucks. first time i ever played, it seems like a real good tourny. i'm always daunted by those massive internet fields though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,394 ✭✭✭robinlacey

yeah the fields are huge but the players are pretty terrible in general

Try the sunday 100,000 for 11$ for a bit of practise :) 17000 players and there is a few spots left. Starts in a 30 mins.

[edit-just filled the last few hundred and closed]

    To Valor and Robin:

Despite the fact that structures are bad and the variance huge: does the opportunity to make a big score through minefields of dead money make participation in the Sunday majors mandatory for serious players??

Or, for Robin in particular, do you play tournies on a Sunday more for a change up from the weekly grind?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,394 ✭✭✭robinlacey

i mainly play them for the laugh, despite the fact that they're not much of a laugh at all cause i never do well in them!

its nice to have a shot at a big score, makes a nice break from the routine of cash games, and is also handy for practice since i'll hopefully be playing the odd big live tournament over the next few years.

i'd imagine i'd be better off never playing online mtts and just sticking to cash but its a bit of fun, also sunday is the day of the week i'm most likely to be too unfocused to play cash games, wheras tournaments require a lot less mental energy.

I've registered for the million as I find it is good therapy to throw money away on Sunday, it motivates me to work the following week ;)

RANT WARNING I'm going to give it a miss actually. Played a lot of tournaments yesterday for little return (one cash in a $5 rebuy :( ). Combination of not running great, overplaying some key bubble hands, and not being able to fold AA on dry boards against flopped sets.

Went out of the 20k guaranteed on Stars earlier on the bubble in a 60BB pot when flopped K high flush < flopped nutflush.

So, not feeling like playing for the rest of the day. End RANT

    OT:

Robin was on about the tv series "The Wire" earlier this year. So picked up series one to have a look. Down to the last two episodes. Best thing I have seen in quite some time. Heartily reccomended.

yeah its absolutely fantastic,i've been rewatching it and enjoying it even more the second time!
wait till you get further into it,its only around season three that you realise the full scale of it,although its still great from the start,it just gets better and better...

Mansion 100k is great value daily. But there finishing it up next week
Usually only 450-550 players for 100k
    overlay usually $50,000

i think i'd call at least one bet here, your hand is fairly underrepresented

as for preflop, since you're 200bbs deep and are going to be left in a tough spot oop, probably against two players, postflop i don't mind a reraise, although i would sometimes call.

Good - I'll give you a shout for the other series when you play live next. Series one is not neccesarily hard to follow - but the depth and complexity of the personalities and politics (street and police) involved really demands the viewers concentration. Magic stuff.
