Well, the last one got off to a bad start so we'll start anew. :)

I've never been to EP before though I'm looking to go this year.

Rumours... both Beastie Boys and The Chemical Brothers are playing the "Bestival" (gotta love the name) at the Isle of Wight the week following EP, so there's a good chance both will be on for the Picnic. From what I've read, Beastie Boys must be one of the most requested groups in previous years, so I'd be surprised if POD passed them up.

Also, The Cure are rumoured to play the final night at "Bestival". Nothing confirmed yet but if it does turn out to be true, they could easily fill one of the headlining slots at EP.

Finally, I see Bjork is doing some shows in France around the end of August, so there's another likely candidate and possible third headliner.

Haven't a clue about any of the smaller slots. I know !!! are confirmed, but that's about it.

You should go to Primavera already if you are so desperate to see Wilco and Sonic Youth as they are both playing that.

aikenpromotions.com has been repeatedly cracked this year. What you are seeing is the google cache of the vandalised page.

    BREAKING NEWS

PRINCE & Elton John duet to headline this year's Electric Picnic!

Aiken is proud to announce the confirmation of a Prince and Elton John duet to headline this year's Electric Picnic!

Aiken confirmed that a duet will be performed on each night of the festival by the newly-formed tuple. Securing the act cost Aiken a vast amount of money, and so ticket prices must be raised a little to cater for this! However, we're sure our customers will realise this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and paying an extra 200% for a ticket is a pretty little thing to ask!

I reckon Bjork for one night definitely.Great festival it is!Beats the living snot out of the "other one".The "other one" has a great lineup this year but it's clientel leave alot to be desired.Great vibes at EP!

The bigger Tipi's are gone already:( - They only went on sale last Thursday. I would have booked one then but its just so hard to get 7 people to commit to it this early.

Oh well guess its back to sleeping in a normal tent. I dont mind it at all just wanted to try the tipis for a change.

As far as line up goes Im thinking they will have a lot of solid smaller acts but will probably struggle to get big headliners. I hope they can bring over some of my Canadian favourites like The Dears or The Stars (dont think we will see BSS again).

It could look a fair bit like the Primavera line up TBH. Pumpkins, Sonic Youth etc.

Bjork, Chemical Brothers and !!! are pretty much confirmed from what I can see.

What about Beastie Boys, Kasabian, Editors they are all doing festivals and not on "other lineups" over here as far as i know.

I know it will be a great experience even if they dont pull in the big names.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

I'd love to see the Beastie Boys live. I think Faust are touring around then too, would love to see them too.

It does not really matter who plays at Picnic, it's just that type of festival. It's in another league to 'the other one'.

Myself and about 12 friends went lat year and missed a few acts due to the fact we were mashed, there was so much else to do and we were smiling all day for 4 days like happy spa's :)

I would LOVE to see the Chemies at Picnic, they blew me away at ****** 2 yrs ago I think it was in the Hangar.

I remember 2 girls on a golf cart driving thru the forest with wreckless abandon at around 5 in the morn, and the forest was all lit up with coloured lights, and I was a little wasted, . . .good times.

There is nearly too much to see and do at Picnic.

I have been to all 3 so far and would not miss this one for anything, and I mean ANYTHING!!

so youre pretty much of the same mind as the 17 year olds who go to the other one then?

I completly agree with this, 3 days just isnt enough to fully get into everything thats going on there!

anyone have an inside line on when the tickets go on sale??? I get the news letter is it sent to ye??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

with another increase in price compared to last year due when the tickets go back onsale soon, possibly another capacity increase, and the overall feel of last year's EP, i'm not sure if i'll bother this year.
'05 was amazing, best festival i've been to by a mile, but POD/Aiken seem to be getting a bit greedy, and the festival is going a bit they way of another festival when it first started out.....
still waiting on the clarification on the tax thing from last year, no official word from Aiken, looks like they were pulling a sly one and pocketing the cash themselves....

how much are tickets and how does the festival look upon 15 yr olds?

even though a 99.99% chance exists that they will never visit ireland, i'd like to see animal collective. they are exactly the kind of music you'd want while lying on the grass napping or staring up at the sky

Animal Collective played Vicar Street a year or two ago, and then played last year at one o' them festivals.

And still, I have yet to see them. :(

Over €200 and they're pretty strict on age.

Animal Collective have played here a few times as far as I know.

EDIT: Just saw Freak's more detailed answer to the second point.

They dont want you and neither do any of the concert goers. This is what makes it significantly better than other festivals. Yes yes I know not all 15yr olds are muppets and becoming 18 doesnt magically cure that in everyone either.... but mostly. :D

i got my early bird tickets last week, the news letter are saying they are going to go on sale again the end of march. :D

hey hey don't hate me cause i've still got my youth :)

i guess i should fact-check my line-up suggestions before you people realize i'm an idiot.

over 200 eh? well, i'm not going.

can someone SPECIFY the age limits?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Um, over eighteen, same as the vast majority of gigs.

    It's over 18's. And under 12's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,592 ✭✭✭Ro: maaan!

Fairly sure that under 12's have to be with parents.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

Under 12's with an adult, which is fair enough. Animal Collective have always disappointed live particularly last year in a tent. Not good at all. But thems the breaks. EP last year were quite strict on ID from what i remember best to look young and go for the under 12 approach!

or climb over the fence? I do know someone who did that...

Wouldn't recommend it for legal reasons though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

I have a feeling fence jumpers are going to screw up EP pretty badly until they get it under control. Last year it definetly felt like there was too many people at the festival.

The support for the Bjork gig in France at the end of August is Nine Inch Nails also NIN have rescheduled their Birmingham date to August 28th

God stop teasing me with NIN!!! am missing them in UK/Europe dues to stupid travel/work commitments, need to see em. Have to see em.

    NIN + Bjork would rule.

Knew it'd never happen, *someone else* booked em... ah well ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,764 ✭✭✭DeadParrot

    terrible news....
I really feel *the others* are trying to Kill EP by booking bands that would suit it so well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭bringitdown

So is there anything "big" left for EP? Bjork would still be nice... but what the hell else its getting thin on the ground me thinks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Anyone seen the lineup for the Green Man Festival in the UK?

Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation, Joanna Newsom, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Bill Callahan, Vashti Bunyan, Dead Meadow, Gruff Rhys, Vetiver, The Earlies, Richmond Fontaine, etc.

Most of those could easily suit the EP bill quite nicely, and it's held between the 17th and 19th of August.

bah! I really wanted to see Nine Inch Nails...
I'm half tempted to buy a ticket - but I won't be able to afford Elec Picnic then.
I wish they'd hurry and announce their line-up... i'm holding on and holding on but can't for much longer!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

THhat green man festival is so tempting but i', afraid i'll book it and then they'll all be playing EP. Love to see Vashti and Bil Callahan and Jo New... again!

Tickets are onsale the 3rd of april so i'd say the lineup won't be announced until the week after next.

I was thinking of trying to get a job working at EP coz I don't really have €200 for a ticket. It's meant to be good craic to work at and as far as I know you get off early enough to see the main acts
