Whats up guys? Is anyone a member here? I'm in Crunch in Dun Laoghaire and it's a great gym, i can't complain but I really want to play Tennis and I am thinking of moving over to Westwood because I hear you can play tennis as part of your gym membership there.

I am just wondering how much is it to join? I have a few mates up there, do I get a discount by mentioning them or anything? Apparently the joining fee is 350 Euro ??? Is that a joke? And it costs a Student 55Euro a month and there is no cheaper price if you are paying all up front?

Any ideas? It all sounds a bit bizarre...then again, it is Ireland...

350 joining fee? What a rip-off. You can get a full years membership for that in some gyms.

They dropped the joining fee when I joined because I knew people who were already members.

That's what I was told on the phone today, kept saying it's a special and they will let me in for 100 Euro joining fee and that it ended officially last sunday but will do it for me today because she was going on holiday.

I was saying well my membership is not up until September and I want to join then if any time and that I have friends in there, and do i not get a discount for joining if i say they referred me? And she was like "No, you can only join for 100Euro joining fee today..."

What the **** are they playing at seriously? Are they trying to annoy me enough so I don't actually join? I'm pretty damn sure I have read people on here saying they got in without the joining fee's etc...

EDIT: Hunnymonster above didn't pay one!!!!!

100 is pretty standard, if you know someone or are a vhi member etc etc. but keep at them and they let you in for free usually.

Yeh I wanna join them too but the prices are a complete and utter rip-off and to be honest the place is a bit of a dump. I've been a member of Crunch in Westmanstown for the last year but I've since moved Southside and the prices over this side of the city are crazy in comparison and Crunch was a far superior gym!(absolutely impeccably maintained and so spacious and clean) When the guy told me it was 350 to join I thought he meant €3.50, nearly choked when he told me the final price.

The absolute worst part of Westwood is dealing with the membership office to be honest.

    They are cocks.

Yeah, a lot of gyms are pretty ruthless when trying to get you to sign-up. Jackie Skelly's are particularly bad. I joined the one on Clarendon Street a few years back and I was told that their offer was ending the weekend I joined; so I was advised to join up when I did. Right enough, the offer ended that weekend only to be replaced by another, better offer! Talk about a silly thing to do to your members. I quit my membership after a year and will never go back to one of their gyms again purely on principal.

Live beside it but Im not a member, haven't heard the best about staff or even the place. Total Fitness in Sandyford is nearby and an excellent gym. Not sure on tennis/cost situation though.
