Setanta on Sky

    Morning all.
A couple of quick questions re. Setanta on Sky.

Firstly, even though they don't mention it on their site, the rate for their sports package is €18.99 a month, yeah? And that entitles you to 9 sports channels?

Secondly, Liverpool have announced that they are going to launch their own station, LFCTV, on Setanta at no extra cost! In the article, the price quoted is £9.99. So does that mean the channel won't be available to us? TBH, I'd much rather that then Rangers TV! :p

No, the article just doesn't quote Irish prices.

The 9.99 they pay in the england is the same as the 18.99 we pay here for the same content.

    GRRRRR.

    Thanks Spockety.

Well that's good news about LFCTV.

Strange that we're getting ripped off, isn't it? I mean, that never happens over here!!

They're not running any introductory offers at the minute, are they? I can't even pretend to sign up at the minute, as I don't know my Sky viewing card number off the top of my head! *hangs head in shame*

I can't see why you think we're being ripped off......I mean we get Premiership footie at 3pm on a saturday, they don't. We get Champions League and UEFA cup, they don't. There are other examples too.......
    regards

    Fair enough.

BTW, between ITV/RTE/TV3/Sky Sports, we've already got the whole Champions League covered. As for the UEFA Cup, I suppose Everton fans will find that handy for one round anyway! ;)

    Is that Sky multiroom?
    If so, I think we're paying €15 a month.

I'm assuming that will give me Setanta on both boxes.

I could have sworn I read an article in the paper the other day that said that Setanta on sky was going to be a non subscription channel from now on. It was the Herald on Monday I think. The article was about the amount of Premiership matches being shown during the forthcoming season..
Was I imagining things?? Anyone here anything about this?

Setanta have dropped the price for UK customers recently due to lack of subscriptons. They need a massive uptake in subs if they are to survive. Could be another ITV digital on the cards

    Saturday, August 18th @ 5.15pm - Newcastle United v Aston Villa

Thats probably why the Liverpool channel has been added for free,I am sure they will get a load more customers because of it.

i have Sky multi room but i was told my a friend if i subscribe to Setanta it won't be on my two sky boxes just the one. You have to pay another charge to have Setanta on your second Sky box.
    Can anyone confirm?

Would also love to know. I've read conflicting posts on this forum about that. Also is Setanta in widescreen on Sky? Setanta Ireland was only 4:3 on ntl a year ago, but how about on Sky? If so, are all the Setanta channels widescreen, or just some?

    Cheers

anybody any concrete links to this because i heard its £5 sterling per box which is around €8.50 per box which is a bith much!!im already paying €30 per month for multiroom for 2 extra boxes so to add another €8.50 per box making it €47.00 for the rights to view all channels on all boxes!!

    Utter Robbery!!

Ok got a BBC FTV card and its not married to the correct Sky Box.

whats the changes of getting setanta whole package on it with out letting sky know its uk card in time for august.

Secondly any change of only paying the 9.99 sterling with my credit card because they think its my cousins card in england

    9.99 sterling is 14 euro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,321 ✭✭✭Foggy43

    BBC FTV Card

If it is a UK viewing card all you will get is the Setanta UK package. Setanta will ask for the viewing card number and they will know it is a UK card. Setanta, I think, cannot give you an Irish package.

I caught the tail end of an ad on the radio today. Buy some product and get 2 months of Setanta free. I don't know what the product was. Anyone else hear it (and catch the name of the product)?

Eircom Broadband offer free Setanta Sports, maybe them?

I think it was an Adidas deodorant at Dunnes Stores. Offer expires around July 25.

Any idea of how to avail of the offer?

It wasn't mentioned on the ad, will have to buy the product and read the details.

I was in Dunnes yesterday, and couldn't find Adidas deodorant, or any mention of such an offer with any product. I haven't heard the ad again on the radio either. Did anyone hear it again?

Since I'd no luck in the deodorant section, I figured maybe the offer was beer related - so I checked there. No luck, so I asked a guy (I'm pretty sure he worked there :D ). He'd no clue, so he asked the next guy, who also didn't know but brought me to the manager who was near by dealing with some other customers. He was so excited by the thoughts of an offer of 2 free months that he interrupted the manager and asked him.
He no clue either. Hadn't heard of such a thing - but he will definitely be keeping an eye out as he'd be interested in it as well...

    Has anyone any more info?

The offer is on a two pack of adidas mens or womans deodorant- In dunnes in Limerick it wasn't with the usual deodorants but in a stand on its own- you have to text the barcode to a text number and they'll call you back- it's 2 months free sub when you pay for 1. I'm waiting 5 days for a call back. the offer ends 24/25 Jul i think

Setanta Sports does carry widescreen programming.

In the UK a mirror sub is £5 per card on top of the £9.99 sub.

I have still not heard from them . I sent the text Sunday week ago and also again last Sunday, both times I got the message saying I'd be called by a setanta rep within 3 days. Last night I called the Setanta number 0818203040 and of course no one had heard of this offer. They took my number and said someone would call me from the Irish call centre today. The offer seems an absolute joke if they can't even call potential customers, I was going to subscribe to setanta anyway for the football even though I hate having to pay so much more for other channels which I won't watch- has anyone been contacted by Setanta on ths offer??

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,075 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

I spoke to a girl this morning who is involved in this offer. I told her of the no callbacks problem and she said that she would look into it. She later called me back with news that she had been on to Setanta and assured me a callback would be arranged within the next day.

    @ philipe

I mentioned this thread and in particular about you sending in a text twice and still no reply. She asked me for your details, but as I did not know any of your details, she gave me her details to pm to you. Unfortunately as I left them at work, I wont be able to get them to you until tomorrow evening.

No problem, I told her that I would probably be asked to pass them on to a few people. She said fine as long as I did not put them up on public display.

thanks aquos76 -i still haven't had any contact from setanta. I sent another email to setanta.irl today to see if I can get an answer there but still no reply yet. I think this will have to be a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland if I get no feedback- hopefully the girl you dealt with will be able to sort this out for me

Another question re Setanta on Sky. Does anyone know if the Setanta channels are matched to the individual digibox like Sky SPorts is??

If not it means I could take the card to my other digibox when watching something on Setanta and leave the main telly to others watching RTE and other fta channels.

If they are matched I may have to get multiroom sub as with Setanta and Sky there will be just too much to watch and taping wud be a waste as u wud never get to watch them!! such problems!

No, I think you'll have to ring them. Doing it online might result in you paying full whack for the second box too!

I got this offer and my confirmation text from Setanta on friday night. If they don't come back to me until the end of August I'll be happy and start my two free months from then. Get more proper sport and a bit of value out of it then! If I do get a call though I'll flag it here. CHeers

That would make sense. They were probably waiting for the promotion to close and then assign staff to contact everyone who entered as one project for them. If they ring me before 11th August I will be happy.

Setanta to Launch Sports News Channel

Setanta is to launch a sports news channel on the Virgin Media cable platform in the latest challenge to BSkyB’s supremacy in pay-TV programming.

The new channel will plug the gap left by Sky Sports News, which has not been available to cable TV viewers since the beginning of March, when Sky and Virgin failed to agree terms for a new distribution deal for the former’s basic channels.

Although the disappearance of high-profile Sky One shows such as Lost and 24 garnered most attention, one source close to Virgin said the company had been “surprised” at the level of customer complaints about losing Sky Sports News.

The deal also strengthens the burgeoning anti-Sky alliance between Virgin and Setanta, which are both striving to undermine the UK pay-TV market leader.

Providing top-level sports coverage, much of it live, has been a key driver in building Sky’s 8.6 million subscriber base in the UK and Ireland.

Setanta’s sports news channel will launch in time for the start of the football season on August 11, when the Irish group will also break Sky’s virtual monopoly on live Premiership rights.

The company’s sports programming will be available for purchase on satellite, cable and the BT Vision broadband service, but also on digital terrestrial platform Freeview, where Sky has so far been unable to launch a pay-TV offering including live football

Setanta rep just called me. He just needed my sky viewing card number and said free trial will run from Wednesday 1st August to 1st October.
No need to cancel as feed will be cut on last day of trial. They are sending a letter with details of how to continue the subscription if I so wish.
He said there was a good response to the promotion and would be spending the next few days contacting all those who responded for their viewing card numbers.
