Work-out to improve sharpness/reaction times

Basically I'm wondering whether there's any work-out (or weights program) that would improve my acceleration from a starting position. Basically I'm back playing football and I've noticed that it takes me a little longer than some to reach my top speed than others. I've always kept fit (mainly long runs in the last couple yrs) and when we're doing our long sprints/endurance drills I can keep up with the fastest on the team.
Alot of dashes in footbal are short and hence my sharpness will hold me back. I'm just afraid all the long runs might have ruined my natural burst of speed.
