Mine's not a 'proper' website or anything, but I quite like the idea of even a handful more people seeing my blog (which would be quite a jump up from the current zero). My address is photosandponders.blogspot.com. I've added all ye're links already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

Very nice blog like the images of the airshow and the PentaxME. Adding your link to my site now.

    Thanks for the link.

    Hi Barry

To participate in a link exchange you kinda need to have site which allows you to post links.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Well folks, I've just added links to all the above websites.

My new website (not sure it's totally ready yet, but what the hell) -
    http://www.photography.paul-walsh.net/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

I've updated my website to http://www.darrengreenephotography.com so if anyone has me as a link, can they change it.

Paul, I'll add you to my site. Can you do likewise?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

I have mine on the way. Far from finished so would prefer people not linking to it yet.

While we're here. Anyone with any experience of some flash.... I just need to find out how do I keep images in the same place within the stage...anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

I have too many...but the one which I have been linking people to on is Dancing Shades of Light if people want to reciprocate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

Ok Calina and Paulw consider yourselves linked.
Get about 150,000 Hits per month so hope some go your way.

    Seb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Darren and Calina both added as well now.

My site is very very basic (still crappy) but it's a start for me. A work in progress, but at least it's there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭PonderStibbons

I've added all the new people too, if you want you can add photosandponders.blogspot.com! (as already mentioned above) Thanks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Oh yeah I forgot about this ... Im "redesigning" still... have a temp design which will change, (currently trying out a few designs on the site) but I have started to add links just to have the content ready. (temp page www.katiecrowley.com/www2) I will put all of this on the main site page when its up and running and will be adding all the links from this thread! Main page will be www.katiecrowley.com when its done.

I'd lose the rollovers... or at least make them more subtle..

Wordpress eh.. I didn't see that happening at all

only added it in on Sunday.. just cos it was a 5 min setup job and easy to link to my style sheet. I dont blog much, or at all as the case may be at the mo, so im still in two minds whether to keep it or not.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,273 ✭✭✭Morlar

That is a neato site - thanks for linking to my flickr - when I get my proper site online I will link back to yours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

I was just gonna put everyone in here on with their sites links and then link to other people's flickrs if I didnt know their site, if that is ok with people of course. Just putting it together slowly at the mo. I wasnt going to post anything until I finished but now Im glad I did, cos I very nearly scraped all of that the last day. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

Thanks all for the new links. I'll update mine when I get home.

Just one small favour to ask.

Can you please show my site name as Darren Greene The URL is still darrengreenephotography.com

    thanks

Yeah! I downloaded the bundle at the time and never did anything with it. It was last weekend when I was looking for an old CSS script in my web directory that I found the folder and thought why not! ;)

So I did listen... at the time... it just took me a while to do anything about it!! hehe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

I distinctly remember getting a "Wordpress is ****" reply, followed by something along the lines of "I'll never use wordpress, it's too generic looking".

    Funny stuff..

lol! imagining things again are we hehe!!

aww in all seriousness though, I dont remember what I said, I just know I downloaded it and did nothing with it. I doubt I called it generic though, afterall it is what you make it. I guess those were the days when I thought I would waste time coding a solution myself, but no point really! Anyway, yeah thanks for the convincing 12 months ago! Better that your point got through later rather than never eh? ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

Well it's 2008 now and going through my links page cleaning up and adding new.

The idea of a link exchange is to swap links so anyone not linking back will be removed sorry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

    Good point.

I just updated my site, and have mutual links on it to others here. Must check though that I have everyone, and that they link back. :D

Yours is certainly there Sebzy and so is yours Katie.

Hi John very nice clean front page. Wish all websites were as neat.

I actually thought about getting a .ie but it just seemed too expensive.

Anyway, I've now added and removed some links. Please check my links page, and if you're not there, let me know. :D

Of course, if you are there, please link back. :D

Ok, for all those with new websites, here's a way to exchange web links with other boards users.

So, anyone else interested in a link exchange??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,185 ✭✭✭nilhg

Yes Paul I would, even though it will probably require me to actually generate a links page myself instead of letting the LR plugins take the strain.

Thinking about it, maybe we should also put them all in a post in the FAQ/Sticky above.

Google is more intelligent than you all might think and these sort of scams are well within it's capability to counteract through it's pagerank system.

Basically, every time you link to another website your pagerank decreases which is actually going to hurt your google profile. If that person links back to you, you are essentially back at square 1 (i.e it has made no difference to your pagerank or profile).

This essentially assumes that the shared link is between 2 websites of similar pagerank. The key is to get a more popular website to link to you while minimising your outbound links to smaller pages.

For that reason I never link to the riff raf. ;)

Do a search for "ireland landscape photography" if you think i don't know what i'm talking about. I get up to 250 google referrals a day.

    :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,057 ✭✭✭kjt

I wouldn't be doing this as an seo trick, it's more for linking to other people's photography that is good and that visitors would find interesting. I really don't think google is going to pick up on 20links. I see what your saying but Linkfarms (and I wouldn't class this as a mini linkfarm either) are far more what google are looking for, not 5/10/20 Irish photographers.

Good job on getting to #1 & #3 on that search term but I'm sure your doing a bit of other SEO. Also you don't come up in the top100 for searching within Ireland on .ie. Linky Your probably not targeting Irish customers so it probably makes no odds to you.

EDIT: Just had a quick look at your website and thought I'd let you know that what's in your footer would be classed more blackhat than a few links we're passing over. Hopefully it won't get picked up on your site but I personally wouldn't advise it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,653 ✭✭✭m_stan

yeah I agree - only doing this for the referrals from other peoples sites, and I do get a few of those. For anyone that's worried - just 'nofollow' the links.

Andy - that footer does look a bit dodgy tbh. It's blatant keyword stuffing, and unlikely gives you any benefit. Nor does it provide any user benefit - which is always a good reason not to do something. If I were you, I'd pull it.
