I have just bought a boat and would like to fly the tri colour off the back rather than the union jack, however the boat is belfast registered.

i have been told this is against regulations. is there a loop hole etc that would allow me to fly the tri color as belfast is on the island or ireland ?

You should be able to reregister it with the Dept of Marine as an Irish vessel. Give them a quick call to find out the details. Depending on the age of the boat they may require prove of VAT payment.
