Plunge Pool Etiquette?

After working out, I've gotten into the habit of taking a quick sauna and then popping straight into the Plunge Pool to cool down afterwards.

So today, there was someone already in the Plunge Pool, and he was taking his time getting out. I asked if there was room for a second person in the pool. He looked at me like I had two heads and said "no. no there is not." and then stared at me like I had asked a most inappropriate question.

The Plunge Pool in the gym is small enough, but would fit roughly 4 people at the same time comfortably. I've had people ask me if they could jump in while I was in there, and I don't mind at all.

So, the question is - what is the Irish Fitness Club "Plunge Pool Etiquette"? Was I out of order asking if I could get in the plunge pool? Do you mind if someone asks share the pool while you're in?

I wouldn't mind if someone got in at the same time as me especially if they asked first. THe only time I might not be comfortable is if it was a man and there was absolutely noone else around but that's highly unlikely in the sardine can that is my gym sauna area.

TBH, the plunge pool in my gym is tiny so it'd be a bit weird but assuming the plunge pool is big enough I wouldn't have a problem with it.

First, I'd say what do you care if he took offense/thought it was inappropriate? If there was room it probably wouldn't even occur to me to ask, The first thing you lose when you start going to a gym or similiar is a sense of shyness about things like that, I mean whats happens after he gets out of the pool? He's only going to go a share a communial shower with 12 other lads.

In the absense of a sign saying one person at a time or no mixing of genders, I would not care who I shared with. I see it as their problem not mine.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I was thinking it should not be an issue. From the horrified look the guy gave me, though, I suspect he thought I was coming on to him. I only wanted to use the bleedin' plunge pool!
