Including postage yes. I am just thinking a trakkas revo is only about a hundred more and am under the impression these are better.

Though a hundred is a good lot more anyway.

If you are going down the Truck/Truggy route buy a Hong Nor CRT
    Much better for racing ;)

I'm not necessarily. I just thought the revo was much better. Is the hyper worth the cash dya reckon?

It would be my first rc car/buggie.

Personally i would go for the Hong Nor CRT

I had a revo and spent quite a lot of cash on it.. Sold it to Plug on here. Bought the Hong Nor CRT and Love it.
Completely different machine to the Revo.
Beauty about a truggy is they can be driven where Buggies cannot go. ;)

The Revo is a very good fun product (Traxxas are well respected by the trade for their back up support) and they sell a lot of them because it does exactly what is says on the box but I also know so many people who bought them and now have them lying up because as I said early bashing around on your own can get boring after a while.

As Vectra says Hong Nor offer some good cars which you could bash around or race. It really depends on what you want to get out of it.

Personally I really enjoying the racing (even though I'm not very good) as you get to meet people with similar interests. I'm sure Vectra will agree with me on that. He ran one of the events of the year in November for EP Touring Cars which brought together over 30 drivers most of who had never met before and since then we race against one another regularly.

Tru about the Revo being a Fun machine.
    BUT
I really think that Traxxas shot themselves in the foot and took the fun factoer out of them when they introduced the 3.3 engine..
Way too many Crankshaft failures :(

The Hong Nor is 380 and that does not even include an engine. I think I will have to stick with a hyper.

If your looking for an RTR (Ready to Race) I can offer you a Crono RS Sport RTR complete with 1 litre of Merlin 25% fuel and rechargable Glowstarter for €395. All you need to go racing is AA batteries for transmitter and receiver (suggest a few good rechargeables). The radio gear in the car is by Futaba while the engine is made by OS.

Crono is an Italian company with a number of European titles to their credit and I race a Crono RS03 myself (New RS7 on the way for the Neo Invitation race!).

If you PM me your e-mail address I can mail you info (PDF) on the car.

    Hi Barkley,
I haven't give it any thought yet. Was hoping someone quick like you would work it out. Any idea of which tyre type to use (preferable from GRP range).

BTW there are a number of us planning to race with you guys on Sunday (in addition to Enda and Co.) How should we go about getting entries? Davy said we need to speak with you.

I just got the hyper8 its a bit of rip off I hope to get it run in this weekend. a second hand Hyper7 would be good, parts from the8/8.5 fit in it too.

If you intrested I have a 1/10 scale carson stormracer2 I wouldn't mind passing on for about €150(is that a reasonaable price, I don't know about 2nd hand prices). Radio gear included, it had about a gallon through it. I'll put it back together and see if it still works

A little off topic... Did you find that your fuel tank would tend to brake everytime you ran the car? Even if i lightly tip off something it breaks...

Regarding the carson, Ive been through one fuel tank. The plastic seemed to have melted off the pipe. The new-ish tank is starting to leak, I just replaced the fuel line so I'll see if that works.:o
I haven't had the hyper 8 running yet so I don't know about that fuel tank. The piston is stuck and I broke the pullstart on it, stupidly.

Hi Guys, don't mean to hi-jack this thread:o

I was looking at getting a started nitro off-roader, I have it down to two they come in at roughly the same price €250 and €260 ( and I get a couple of spare glow plugs for the tenner) so there is not much in it price wise.

    They two cars are, Hot Bodied 1:10 Lightning Stadium and HPI Firestorm 10T, it breaks down like this;

    Lightning RTR €190 (delivered)
    Started pack €35
    Fuel €10
    Batteries €15 (guessing)

    Total €250

    Firestorm Kit
Car RTR, Starter pack, 2 spare glow plugs, 12 AA batteries €250 (delivered)
    Fuel €10

So which set would be better, from a quality stand point as they are about the same Price.
Are there any parts or things I am missing from my lists that I will require for running the car?

Personaly I would go for the Hot Bodies.
    BUT
I dont think anyone will post in the fuel to you. I am assuming it is from the UK ?

Thats right its the UK, the fuel I was planning on getting over here, along with the starter pack and batteries for the Lightning, everything bar the fuel comes with the Firestorm. The reason I am getting a couple of spare glow plugs with the Firestorm is that they won't ship the fuel that comes with the Kit.

Why would you go for the Hot bodies over the HPI?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 98 ✭✭bonisio

Hot Bodies is owned by HPI. Hot Bodies being the competition brand for HPI.

Sounds like you have everything covered but as Vectra says I dont think they will post fuel but I can help you there if thats the case.

    Also,
He can provide you with some high quality nitro as well.

Ordered the Hot Bodies 1:10 Lightning Stadium from the states in the end, worked out at ~€170 including expidited shipping. Car itself workes out at €125ish, anyone know how much duty I will have to pay on this?

Bonisio you offer fuel, do you do starters and the likes?

I think the official duties are 6% import duty and then 21% VAT.

Yes we do fuel, starters, glowplugs and most other accessories required for nitro cars. Feel free to drop me an e-mail.

Depends on where you buy it from!
Some places it comes for up to a third less than that .... :) Cost depending on the nitro level of course.

I worked it out about 5 yrears ago with at 1:10th rally , 140 miles to the gallon on 5% glowfuel. Very impressed I was at the time! Less distance on 10% glowfuel, but it was of course a good bit hotter in performance, so not fair to expect fuel economy at faster speed. When you get to 20% a car is a hot little thing, but don't expect to have the same gallon last you all summer any more! ;) The 20% guys use about a little over a half gallon a day if they are out for the full day.

As a guide .... The guys I know, a gallon (on average) lasts 2 months if they are average modellers, 1 month if they are real busy guys out every week for a couple hours, and lasts 2 weeks if they are out midweek and weekends.
I am referring to a proper gallon of fuel, not tiddly US gallon (3 1/2 litre) bottles that some fuels come in.

The Specter and the Hyper ... close but not identical.
But very very similar, and a good few parts are the same.
In some I have seen the engine is the same, for example.
But I can not speak for all Hypers, since I have only inspected 5 or 6 close up so far. I had a 1:10 Hyper rally car myself about 2 years ago, and that also had the same engine as the Carson, but the rest of it was totally different. So I suspect Hyper buy a chassis, choose a "special" setup-version and re-label and market it as theirs.

There are fewer car makers than most people think. Much fewer than there are car brands. :)

I've used about 2.5L's of Nitro today on the car alone. Four tanks to run in and about 20 - 30mins flying round. How do the guys who are out all day only use the same amount?

how many tanks in total did you use?
If you were to a race day you might only have something like 3 heats and one final round of 20 or 30 mins ( Not certain on that ) But that would be only around 6 or 7 tanks for a days racing.

While your engine is running rich you will use more fuel per run. Could this be the case?
