    "Yore ma" means "your mother" and is used as a witty retort. e.g.

    "I'm dying"
    "So's yore ma after last night :p"

    Yore ma isn't just used on boards, it's actually used by people in the real world to although I spend somuch time here I'm beginning to forget what that is.

    However it is normally used unwittingly (if thats a word).

    'Your Ma' comes from everywhere! It is usually said as a sexual innuendo after someone says something that could be distorted into an innuendo. Par example;

    'It's really easy'
    'Like yore ma?'

    When talking about money (for example);
    'I'm a bit tight at the moment'
    'Like your ma'.

    However, because the 'your ma' jokes are so ubiquitous, common and over-used, people often say 'your ma' as a parody of itself, because of how 'your ma' jokes have degenerated into being said all the time and not even funny anymore;

    'This isn't funny anymore'
    'Like your ma'.

    To my knowledge, a troll post is someone saying something just to annoy people.

    Diswittingly? Unwittingly? Disunwittingly? That's a tricky one. Yes you are right. Only seldom is it actually funny. I await the "Yore Ma's a tricky one :p" reply any minute now :rolleyes:

    'yore ma' well covered above ^^ (eh wha!?)

    a troll post is a post made purely to get a rise out of someone, or to bait people into responding. Theyre not contributing posts, and are made purely to create heated discussion that the 'troller' will just sit back and laugh over

    Not too sure what trolling is. either I think it's when someone says something trying to get someone else to say something they shouldn't and result in a ban. If any of that makes any sense because it barely makes any to me. But more or less what violet said.

    This would be an example of troll post then...

    Thats baiting Cushion, another tool in the trollers arsenal ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭Ishmael

    Trolling is posting provocative posts to get a reaction out of people more than to actually discuss the topic.

    eg. A thread like "I think x/y/z is ****** " would be a troll unless the poster has some way of backing it up.

    I think a troll post is also a post that tries to drag the thread off topic with a random post that doesn't contribute and so cause other posters to reply angrily and as such, the thread is gone off topic!

    I Think!

    I always thought it had something to do with the irish phrase "maith an cailin" (forgive the absence of fadas, too lazy).

    cailin maith - irish for good girl (girlfriend) got shortened to moth

    Witlessly is the word you're looking for. It means without wit.

    Unwittingly means unintentionally.

    Used by skangers about skangerettes and as such should not be used by normal people in polite conversation

    Not it's not ! They call their maiths "Burds" I call my Maith, Maith, because as previously explained it comes from the Irish for My Good Girl, once I explained this to her she grew to quite like it as a term of endearment !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,044 ✭✭✭Wossack

    I always thought it was 'mot' - is that just a further skangerism of the term?

    I agree, I've only ever heard mot, not moth. Moths eat clothes.

    I believe it's just poor diction pronouncing "Moth" as "moHHH" :rolleyes:

    I also thought this too, and I have learned over the years not to let AH change my mind on most of these things.

    There was a new "boardism" coined on feedback recently...

    "fat cock up the ass"... abbreviated to FCUTA.. it means to chill out or take it easy

    In context:

    Damn man, im completely stressed from work!?!!

    Yo, you need a fat cock up the ass!

    Totally!

    :D

    pardon the ignorance, but what does "ftw" at the end of a sentence mean?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    For the win.

    As in, who's the sexiest woman in the world?

    Mary Harney ftw.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,352 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

    From Urban Dictionary
    FTW

    Acronym, For The Win

    An enthusiastic emphasis to the end of a comment, message, or post. Sometimes genuine, though often mocking, in jest or sarcastic.

    Quoted For Truth.

    A previous poster may have made a point that you really, really agree with, and to re-enforce that post, you quote it, and place QFT underneath, to show everyone that you are a sheep and think the exact same thing as that other person.

    It stands for quantum field theory. Which is a theoretical framework, widely used in particle physics and condensed matter physics in which to formulate consistent quantum theories of many-particle systems, especially in situations where particles may be created and destroyed.

    whats funny bout the QFT one, is that in some american circles it stands for 'quit f***ing talking'... which is pretty much the exact opposite of 'quoted for truth'
