    Approved Driving Instructors (ADI)

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is the regulatory body for driving instruction in Ireland. Driving instructors who meet the standard set by the RSA will become Approved Driving Instructors (ADI). An ADI Registrar based in the RSA heads up the unit responsible for the registration process. The ADI Registrar will set up a Stakeholders Forum to give a chance to those involved in driving instruction to have their say. See below for contact details.

The objective of regulating the industry is to standardise instruction and give the ADI instructor a leading role in developing better drivers.

    Temporary Permits - Transition Measures

The temporary permit is available to current driving instructors working in the industry up to 1st July 2007 who wish to be registered by the RSA as a temporary ADI. It will assist the industry and the RSA in managing an orderly transition to a regulated industry by 1st January 2009.

To be issued with a Temporary Permit an applicant must:

Meet person of good repute criteria
    Be tax compliant
Have been working in the driving instruction industry up to 1 July 2007
The Temporary Permit will not be renewed under any circumstances, you should apply to become a RSA ADI in good time, in order that the entire process is complete before 31st December 2008

The Temporary Permit Application Form also consists of notes on how to complete the form and should be read before completing the application form.

Please Note: The Application Form for the full ADI Permit will be available from this page shortly.

Thats a private body - a trade organisation. I understand it was formed when the expectation was there would be no government register.
