For shame, I only belatedly got Sly and the Family Stone's first album (A Whole New Thing).

I've been listening to the opening track "Underdog" for about a fortnight now. I just can't get enough of it. Savage stuff.

    Funkadelic by Funkadelic. Brilliant.

    Good choice.

Also rate Maggot Brain and Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow.

Latter is a bit patchy but the title track is probably worth the price of the album alone.

    Closer - Ne-Yo

He does Michael Jackson without blatantly ripping him off on this song.

If he wasnt ripping him off would he not be doing Ne-Yo in the song instead?

The song sounds similar in style to MJ tracks so you can hear the influence.

What I'm referring to when I say "blatantly ripping him off" is when artists such as Justin Timberlake and Usher do tracks that are so close in style and sound to an MJ track that it sounds like plagiarism.

The Ne-Yo track however, in my opinion, doesn't come across as rip-off but you can still hear the MJ influence.

    Great choice Sajan.

That's one of my favourite tunes.

I think that version is the best one and it's only on youtube as far as i'm aware. A different kind of vibe to it. Down to Gadson changing the rhythm I suppose. He is an amazing artist. My favourite of all time.

Nice one. I had heard the live version from Carnegie Hall (which also segues into Cold Baloney), but that one is brilliant.

Just got the Garland Green collection . It's FAB covering his career over 24 tracks and spans across the various recording labels Spring , UNI etc. There are so many good songs here. It's difficult to call it when it comes down to selecting 3 or 5 songs best to keep it to a weekly thing. This would be my CDor Artist of the week. Last week I was all loved up over Leroy Hudson. Give it a whirl. I'll be playing some Leroy Hudson on tonigths SOULFOOD Thursday 7pm. Catch it www.u105.com or channel 726 freeview or old money style u105.8fm My guess is that I'll be featuring some Garland Green next week.
