So are you someone who requested info or help on your training plan from the people in this forum?

    If so

Was the info you received successful in getting you to achieve what you wanted? (i.e; weight loss, toning, muscle mass)

Or was the info you received unsuccessful in getting you to achieve your goal?

Let us know via a vote and a reply if the training plan you've undertaken, according to advice received through boards, has worked for you. If it hasn't then why not post up what you're doing due to the advice you received through boards. We'll then try to set you on the right path and hopefully get it working for you.

Has teh advice received through this fitness forum helped you? 19 votes

    yes, yes it has.

However as with any forum never take the advise given by anyone as fact, go look verify the information yourself. Also for the most part the results people get are in direct relation to the effort they put in and not the advise given to them, as with every thing else most people think that weight loss/musle gain will come easy enough however generally they don't actually understand the true amount of effort they will have to put in cause with this there really is no quick fix

Well I've never actually posted asking for advice but I read the forum every day and pick up bits and pieces.

I read all the stickies as well and started a plan for myself 6 weeks ago. Since then I am down 15lbs and 6% bf. I look/feel much better and because I am following the advice of 6 small meals a day I am never hungry or dying for the chocolate like I used to!

I was actually going to post a thread to say thanks to everyone for the help they provide to people like me once I had reached my target, but I might as well take this opportunity to do it now. Thanks, in particular, to G'em - I know you don't know me from Adam but I think all your posts and advice are fantastic and just wanted to say! :)

I have a wee question if I may, without wanting to go OT. I'm female, 5'5, 147lbs and 31%bf. What bf% would I want to be to be 'lean'. I was thinking about 20% but maybe that's not realistic, so 25%? If someone can give me a rough figure that'd be great.

I find it very interesting reading the forum I must say. Any shortfalls I've had in my goals (not that there's been lots, my goals are modest enough compared to others) are purely of my own making... I'd be fooling myself if I blamed the fact I hadn't lost weight or learned to bench-press a Transit van on something someone told me on an internet forum.

Definitely found the stickies & posts on nutrition to be pretty helpful. I am now a little bit of a food nazi, but it's all good.

Haven't reached my goal entirely as a result of having a pretty crazy schedule for the last few months, but I have lost about 10lbs in two months while building up a bit of muscle. Any shortcomings again are my own fault!

Only I can help myself but what I like about here is that there are people who know alot, practise what they know and are not scared to tell me I'm c**p. They also know what I'm interested in so (with the exception of Hanley who can't get over the fact not everyone wants to be a hulk) they don't have me doing IRM every day or never touching carbs ;)

If the advice here is followed there will be results. If there aren't there are a great collective group of heads to put together to figure it out.

Yeah, cos everybody knows that's the only reason someone should go to a gym

Well, I train pretty much 6 days a week already for rugby so I already knew a lot about what I wanted to do and how to go about doing it. For example, during the off season it'd be the body fat loss for a base to put bulk on, then during the season it'd be maintenance and recovery training.

I did however pick up some nice tips and tricks by reading through this forum and with regular visits it helped to keep me on track.

So I guess I could say that all the advice I read on here, once filtered for what I wanted, helped me.

I was just curious to see how others who were training on advice given here were doing, the idea came to me this morning when I was talking to a mate about him wanting to start into some training to tone up, not for a sport or anything, just for himself.

so far the majority of posters to this thread seem to be happy with the results..... I guess the system works ;)

I'll second that... it is refreshing to have such a positive attitude on this board (especially when you look at some of the other boards on this site) and it is very encouraging. Even if the post does not apply to you directly the good vibes and solid advice are very helpful - so thanks g'em et al.

I'm not going to vote since I actually started out on other boards and got most of my initial advice elsewhere, but in a more general sense I did start out ignorant of nearly all this good advice, & the internet in general (and the fitness forums I stumbled across first) were certaintly a godsend for me.

At this stage I've read countless books & original research on all kinds of related topics (way too many really, in terms of what I can practically implement & given that I do have a day-job! :D ) but I would never have got to this point without such an accessable source of honest, non-profit driven advice.

I pretty much make up my own training programmes as I go along, however, anytime I have sought advice here I have to say the quality of the info I got back was excellent. Additionally I have learn lots about general fitness and eating correctly, so a big thumbs up from me.

I'm not there yet, but I'm a few miles down the road of a long, long journey. Through this forum I've encountered a group of people I'm proud to call friends and aquantinces, many of whom are genuinely inspirational to me (I'll save them the embaressment of naming them, some know who they are, others probably have no idea).

My bodyfat % is far lower than it was when I started on this road back in February, I'm stronger, my muscular definition is far better, my diet is improved (though still far from perfect), I'm fitter and I just plain look and feel better than I have in years.

Before becoming a regular here and on Team Test, I used to go on a 'health kick' at least once a year. Starting a fitness journal and getting to know some of the other posters has changed what started as one of those in February into a change of lifestyle and I'm greatful to those that have helped me make that change through their advice, encouragement and companionship in the weights room.

Unsuprising really, I doubt anyone unhappy with the advice/forum would stick around for long.

There is some great info on this site and its a great supportive atmosphere. With the correct information my experience would suggest results are directly proportional to the effort applied. Seeing results but like sleepy still a lot more to do lol.
