    Hi all,

I've noticed at my gym that protein powder supplements etc have become really popular. Just wondering what everyone thinks the best supplements are for rugby and muscle development / recovery?

Looked around on the internet but SO MANY brands and types - my head is just wrecked.

So, which supplement and which brand?

    Cheers, Andy.

Protein should be used regardless of what type of fitness training you are doing, excellent for muscle gain, weight loss and muscle recovery.

I'd advise some more research, and keep in mind these are only supplements, if you're not putting in the training, it's pointless.

Perhaps try the Fitness forum here on boards, with a clear indication of your current regime and what goals you want to achieve.

Theres a nutrition store on capel street, they do 20% off first sat. of every month! I buy most of my stuff there!

What sort of age are ya? I play rugby and in the off season this summer, ive been looking to drop from 15 1/2 stone (im a winger/centre...not an ideal weight) to 14 stone almost there!
In the mean time ive increased all my weights, benching 80kg reps, and 95kg 1 rep max...struggled on 60kg when i started, and im squating 110-120kg again struggled on 70kg when is started...just giving u an example of how ive improved!

I've been using noXplode by BSN http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/creatine/bsn-no-xplode-review.htm

its 60 euro With 20% off its only 45 for a tub and lasts a good bit, maybe a month or more depending how much u take for workouts!

noXplode is taken before u work out, and helps u increase ur pumps in the gym, the review above gives u the general idea.

After a few weeks taking this u can notice a great difference, it has a small amount of creatine in it, but nothing to worry about if ur not into creatine!

I started Cellmass by BSN http://reviews.bodybuildingforyou.com/BSN/cell-mass.html

Ive had great results from this and im only on it 2weeks, ive been dropping weight for going away aswell as gaining muscle for the bitches in Thailand haha

This is taken after a workout, helps recovery increases muscle mass and strength! This isnt the best one out there, id recommend KreAlkaline, i would be on it but they were sold out and I needed to start it as soon as possible!

Im also taking protein supplement, mainly as an extra meal during the day,
    http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/protein/100-whey-protein-review.htm

All the stuff above is wat ive been taking and ive had brilliant results from it, considering that, ive been goin to the gym 2-3 times a week, havnt been doing much cardio, can leave that till august before season, or if u wana get a head start start doing 5k runs one day and maybe 30 minute sprints a different day!

Anyway hope it was helpful, best of luck with ur training!

NO XPLODE is very good for muscle gain but is also very dodgy. Lots of lads I know have used it and a couple have had some really bad reactions to it.

All I use is Nutrition X's RAM after a weights session (recovery)

One scoop of Nutrition X's Pro-X at breakfast time if I'm not having eggs.

One and half scoops Pro-X with 300ml supermilk right before I go to bed if I've been weight training that day.

I know of others who use small amounts of creatine before and after weights sessions but I personally don't feel like I could handle the bloated feeling some types of creatine give.

Supplements are not going to turn you into Paul O'Connell, all they do is substitute whole food sources and allow you to train nearer 100% on a more consistent basis.

As you can see from above I use Nutrition X products. They are an Irish company who are cheaper than others but their standards are just as high if not higher.

I agree - get your diet sorted first.

I see plenty of kids in the gyms taking lots of supplements and they tend to be the ones that piss about doing curls, bench press and ab work.
