Arm exercises?

    Hi there.

I had an accident several years ago that left me with very little arm strength, especially in my wrists. I find it hard to carry simple things such as shopping bags and struggle to keep my arms over my head for any length of time.
Are there any practical exercises I can do to help build up strength?
The main damage was to the radius in each elbow, which in turn effected the lower arm strength and grip/grasp reflex.
I've tried light weights but my arm started to tremble in a matter of minutes. I can't do anything that requires my arms to take any weight or pressure at all. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    SS

I got physio at the time, using a resistance band and tins of beans  I did the exercises to the letter, often through tears.
Later on I did a course in massage and this helped build up some more strength, but I've never regained what i feel is "proper" use of my arms.
