Working out with a cold...?

    Hi,

I've been getting back into working out regularly over the last couple of months (after a break of a number of years :o ) , and now I have a cold. When this happens, it doesn't affect my workout too much, but the cold seems to last a lot longer than when I'm not exercising. Is there a reason for this? Is it because my body is using up more vitamin C than usual? And should I stop cardio and/or weights until my cold is gone?

I really don't want to stop now as I'm starting to see real results, but I also don't want to have a cold for the next two months. In the past I have taken vitamin C supplements to try to shake a cold because it's supposed to help, but it didn't make any difference.

    Any advice?

I would recommend taking a break for a few days until you get rid of the worst parts of your cold. When you're sick, your body needs all the nutrients it can get in order to get rid of the cold, so training is pretty pointless. Plenty of vitamin C and couple of days rest and you will be back in the gym without losing much of your recent good work.

If its just a head cold keep working out, you will actually get rid of ti quicker than normal. If its a chest infection stop and take the time to recover.

The general rule with most is above the neck keep going, below the neck stop.

It's a bit of both. I'm taking a week or so off, then back to work. Thanks for the replies.
