Maps disappearing on Garmin 610T

Can anyone shed some light on this? Just got myself a Garmin 610T, this comes with Ireland and UK maps (V9) preloaded. I downloaded PIOloader and loaded some POI's as an experiment. So far so good. After registering with Garmin I downloaded Webupdater and using this brought the Operating System (not sure if this is the right term in Garmin) to V3.8.

It was then my problems started, the detailed maps that had previously working perfectly had disappeared.

The system can find my current location and displays some of the surrounding towns as dots on the screen. However, whne I try to enter an address it give me a message that no maps are loaded. I get the same message when I try to view maps and the maps button is no longer selectable.

I wasn't aware that the files on the Garmin could be backed up, the user manual doesn't make any mention of it to the best of my knowledge.

    Would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks
