is swimming a better way to loose weight that lets say jogging.

I'm 18 stone and 22 years of age. i find running in the gym very very boring and would like to know of the benefits and drawbacks to swimming.
i will also be doing weights and i have my meals in order as in 5 small meals a day.

    cheers

I think it's a personal thing - what you enjoy and will stick at. Both will burn calories and help you loose weight if you do them consistently. If you find running boring and enjoy swimming, then swimming is a much better way for you to loose weight. If your heavy, running might be tough on your joints though, while swimming is low impact, which might be a consideration.
Walking is good too, cycling - try them all and see what works for you.

Why not run outside - run home from the gym after weights maybe? It'll be a lot less boring than a threadmill, especially as you'll have a destination!

I tend to find that a swim of an hour or so will leave you STARVING,absolutley weak with hunger and as such it may not be the best way to lose weight unless you can fight the urge to pig out.Try and split the two, maybe twenty minutes treadmill then twenty minute swim, keep the swim till last as you'll tend to look forward to cooling off after your jog or whatever.

    cheers for that.
the gym is beside where i work so running home is a ''non runner'' if u like:D

i go to the gym in the morning before work (about 7.15am) and would also like to know when doing weights and swimming what order should it be in. to warm up i either have short run or on the bike.
