    Hi,

I have a big tub of whey I want to get through before I buy some RAM. Just wondering if I was to add some glucose (like 2:1 ratio) to my post work out protein shake will this have close effects to that of RAM?????

The whey can be used at other times to bump up your protein thru-out the day, OR you could just have a scoop and a half of protein and water and wash it down with abottle of lucozade.

Yeh I was relying too much on my protein shakes to get my levels of protein up, so trying to get my protein from whole foods. I was just gonna buy some dextrose in the shop and mix it in. Would this be just as good or would I be better of with the lucozade???? Or just better with RAM?

Do people who do RAM not really bother with protein shakes????

    monty
i would take Ram solely after a workout.
the rest of the time I'd use whey on it's tod when not using whole foods.

Whey is too fast acting to take on its own unless its after a workout. You'd be better mixing it with milk protein in order to get a more sustained release.

Milk protein, is the the same as casenin?(Dunno how to spell it) So in the mornings and night mix the whey with milk protein and after workout with glucose??? Where can you buy milk protein?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

Casein is slow release, but it costs about twice as what whey does. Many would take it at night, but a cheaper substitute is just mixing whey with milk, also it means you only have to buy one type so will usually get it cheaper since you are buying in bulk.

Get your glucose in tescos/dunnes, about €1 for 500g in the babyfood section

Cool thanks a million guys. This will have the same effect as RAM, or RAMs 100 times better?

Add a small bit of salt and you'll basically have the same as RAM, as it has some electrolytes in it to help with rehydration. RAM just tastes nice and has a good price thats why everyone is in love with it, also its one of the few supps that does exactly as it says it will

    'tis a good idea IMO.

Ok bought the dextrose last night, spent ages walking around Tescos looking for it, but eventually found it. Gonna give it ago later, probably have more whey than glucose in there though.... Have a feeling it's gona be awful sweet, might just buy the RAM if it is.

    Thanks lads.

It will be (that's one reason why people like splitting the carbs, 50% dextrose:50% maltodextrin)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

Glucose/dextrose is less sweet than sugar, thats why lucozade is not sickly sweet. Maltodextrin can be got in home brew shops or health shops. Lo-Lo salt has a mix of potassium chloride and sodium chloride, not sure but it might be a better mix of electrolytes. Lemon juice or grapefruit juice could be added to take away form the sweetness, or you can buy powdered citric acid in asian shops.

It is. PErsonally I found it disgusting and that's one of the things that sold me on RAM!

Tried it there the other day and it's not to bad at all. Need to put more dextrose in it though I feel.

Rubadub, are you saying I should but some salt in it to increase the electrolytes????

Also is this an exceptable PWO Shake or is there to much in it?

    Whey
Dextrose (or maybe RAM as opposed to the Whey and dextrose)
    Electrolytes (or salt)
    BCAAs
    Creatine CEE

If it is ok, what should the measurement splits be?

    Thanks

Seems like a whole load of effort to go to when you could just buy RAM and throw some CEE/mono into that and be away. Hell XXX might be worth a look too (I'm using it at the mo combined with CellX, glutamine and mono post workout)

Hanley, Do you find the XXX good??? Theres very little creatine in it, is that why you add the mono and cellx????

I don't know how I find it yet. I've only used it twice. Doesn't seem to be all that different to RAM. And the CellX is just there to beef up the carb content and add some glutaline and mono.

So I'd probably get the same return, more or less by mixing creatine CEE with RAM????

Do you mix BCAAs with RAM, or does it have to much amino acids in it to mix with them???

Dave, would you still throw the 2/3 grams of CEE in there then???

Cheers for info guys that looks interesting. I guess you guys here use it and can recommend?

I currently use maximuscle cyclone, any reason to worry about potentially mixing the two. i.e. using both concurrently. I'd only keep using the cyclone for the creatine, could I buy creating separately and add it in.

sorry for hijacking thread didn't want to annoy folks starting another...

Mixing creatine into RAM? imo it's a bad idea NOT to do it. Combining the 2 is one of the best things I've ever done.

Do you still take RAM with your XXX or is it more or less the same thing?

No no. I have no RAM, but I do have a tub of XXX so I'm just using it til I get more RAM!

XXX's protein:carb ratio isn't as good as RAMs but I jsut make sure I have a bottle of lucozade pwo to try and bump the carbs up some.

:D thats ok at least your the kid that asked not the one that got to 18 and still didnt know!

Its like the superdrink for sports enthusiasts/altheletes - Its generally used as a recovery drink. What makes it unique is the ratios of ingredients including protein, glucose, carbs – it includes nutrients such as amino acids.

.- It helps repair damaged/stressed muscle tissue lost during your workout
Also it tops up the glucose in your body, making you less likely to fatigue and feel drained of energy post workout. Hydrates the body etc.
Basically it speeds up recovery so you can achieve your max performance each workout.
Most importantly for those looking to bulk up, it reduces break down of muscle protein and which helps build muscle more rapidly.

while I agree with you before bed - i'd usually take cottage cheese - I find during the day and breakfast whey is fine.
During the day there is only 2/3 hours between food so fast acting protein suits me. Athough apart from breakfast ( where i need fast acting whey after 8 hours of not eating) would be eating whole foods

But that's an aside - not wanting to hijack thread
