I've been browsing all those airsoft retailer websites for months, and did not given in to the temptation to buy another AEG.

That all changed last night. A moment of weakness....a moment of madness, and I pressed the 'checkout' button on Redwolf's site.

I now have a new TM G3 SG-1 on the way with a 1 joule upgrade, Woodland Camo paint job, scope mount, two 500 round hi-cap mags and a few other bits & bobs.

    Review here:
    http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/?filnavn=/reviews/sg1/g3sg1review2.htm

EDIT: Picture for the link-challenge among you:
    tm-g3sg1.jpg

Shipping was quite steep ( €140 ), and it's likely I'll be hit with customs charges.

Overall the order came to $590 which works out at €440.(€532 after VAT) It better be worth it!!

So what do you think of my new toy?

P.S. I forgot to order a sling. Is anyone buying any airsoft stuff soon? Maybe you can add a sling to the order and I'll pay you the cost + shipping.

As long as it's not over 1 joule there's no legal problems.

That was originally the first AEG I had planned on buying. N.O.I.P decided to buy it before me though

Ive manhandled his one quite a bit. Theyre nice. Creaky as hell though. It creaks more than my Famas.

The one thing I dont like about it is the quality of the gray finish. Youre getting it sprayed though so that wont be an issue.

There is also a tiny "fake" weld around the ejection port that annoys me quite a bit. Again, a pretty small flaw but yeah..I can be picky like that.

Should be nice to use up at Predator.

You might want to grow a few inches though. Its a pretty big gun ;)

hehe...not to worry. That's why we have Rifle Bags. All perfectly legal so long as you have no criminal intent.

Oh, and it's an Airsoft rifle, not a Paintball rifle ;)

I played that a few times when it was first released. Didn't like it much.

I'd no idea that the G3 SG1 was used in the game. It's just a coincidence. I don't want anyone mistaking me for one of those CS fanboy freaks.

Well the company I work for just 'accidentely' gave me €5333.02c pay this month. And it appears that they haven't got a clue that they did it.

So I won't be needing the can-opener, slice pan and immodium just yet. :D

Definitely not a bonus. Only just got my bonus a while ago (€2000 ...yay me!), and we get notified in advance when they come around.

Since the payroll system is automated, I doubt anyone will notice the mistake. It only happened because there was a change in my contract status so a person had to put through this pay packet manually. Looks like they screwed it up though.

If the money is not taken back out of next months pay, then I'll go on a shopping spree!

So have a guess what broke on me today?

    Yup...my TM AK Beta.

I'm beginning to think the quality of TM is not as good as believed. There a trigger problem with my TM Glock, and now the gears are stripped on the AK Beta after 3 months use. Clones probably would have lasted longer without problems.

Thanks to Paul for stripping the AK down for me at HRTA so we could identify the problem And a huge 'thank you' to KDouglas who has taken the gearbox home with him to fix. He even offered to upgrade it to 1 joule with a spare spring he has!

    Keith, you are just

TM quality is the best around. Simple as that.

Saying that, you CAN be unlucky. You could get a lemon that broke down after 300 rounds. Highly unlikely though.

Do you maintain it much? You said before you can fire up to 5000 rounds a day. That every weekend is pretty damn hard on a gun.

Didn't see that as I breezed through the post...

Clones have weaker parts assembled to lower quality controls. You know as well as I do that statement is totally untrue. Out of all the people I know who've purchased a Marui since August, yours is the first in my recollection to strip something.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too much hassle to fix.

not gonna get involved in the clone vs tm debate, tbh it's just like windows vs linux, neither side will ever win, they both have their advantages and disadvantages

but yes, fixing the gearbox should be pretty straight forward, it's just about 4 teeth stripped on one of the gears (can never remember the names of the bloody things, the middle one), i knew exactly what it was when i heard the sound from it

I'm not trying to get into a clone vs TM debate. Just pointing out that you cant really make statements such as "a clone would have lasted longer" when its totally untrue given the quality of parts and manufacture standards. Excuse the pun, but comments like that really grind my gears.

    But ANYWAY,

So how's your gearbox stripping doing now? Reckon you have the courage to take apart a TM? ;)

I have every intention of not only paying for any parts, but for the work you do on the gearbox!

Don't worry too much about the spring upgrade anyway. I'd be happy to have my AK not making any horrible whirring sounds again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,659 ✭✭✭CrazyRabbit

My statement about the clones probably lasting longer was said in anger. I guess I am just really unlucky to have problems with my 2 TM guns even though they are fairly new.

If my G3 SG1 breaks after 2-3 months, I'll be back cursing TM though! :p

The AK requires very little maintainance. When the gearbox was opened, it was well greased and looked in perfect condition with the exception of the stripped middle 'transmission' gear.

doesn't matter what brand it is tbh, they're all pretty much the same, sure it's broken already anyway, can't do much more damage! :p

grand so, €50 per hour ok with you? :D

actually that's the one thing i've noticed about clones, they have a tendency to over-grease the gearbox, TM gearbox's are much cleaner inside

Just to attest to the sheer "jumbo-ness" of the G3 I'm 5'5" and I physically cannot shoulder NOIP's SG1.

Ah well, I'm a good shot anyway. I won't need to aim, so I'll just fire from the waist. :p
