    Hey guys,

I'm in need of a serious make-over and i was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what steps i should take to try and help my situation that im in.

A little background first. Im 23 and currently don't exercise at all (well, a small bit but ill explain in a bit). If someone were to see me in the street they would see me as joe bloggs physically, not visually overweight (dress well..lol). The thing is, the reason why i feel that i have become over weight over the last year, to a year and a half is due to my lack of confidence, self-esteem and taking comfort in food (we all know it makes you feel better :o ) and over indulgence in this aspect. Not having much of a social life doesnt help (another topic all together). I stay in most nights and take refuge in home comforts, which doesnt sound alien to most people.Back in school a few years ago i used to be very fit, playing rugby and the likes and its got to the point that if I run up my stairs in my house, i wont be out of breath but ill be panting more.

My place of work is about 10-15 minute walk from my home, but an act of trying to rectify my situation has resulted in me just recently purchasing a very nice bike and for the last 2 weeks ive been cycling to work, which takes around 5 minutes there, and back.

For a severely unfit person, what would be the next few steps I should take? I have been watching what I eat lately also, for the past week and a half, ive been mainly eating salads/soups/poultry for dinner, should i keep this up?

I know quite alot about weight training as i used to do alot of it, but for the past 2 years not a scratch of exercise and its really effecting my self-confidence (im a self confessed metrosexual). I know if i was slimmer, i'd be able to get my life back on track and start getting motivated about what i want to do in life (recently dis-continued my college course).

Apologies about the length of the thread but any advice would be really appreciated as i need to start working hard at this if i want to make a difference,

Thanks for you time guys :o

Join a rugby club? If you still like playing even if it's just a J3/4 team it'll be better than nothing plus there's the social aspect of it. In the meantime I'd suggest maybe just going on a 1hr fast paced walk when you stay in by yourself. Do this at least 4 times a week for the first 3-4 weeks.

Then when you find yourself not panting walking up the stairs etc I suggest you join the gym and keep that up until the junior rugby season kicks off in oct (unless your AIL/J1 which clubs do team sessions from july onwards.)

Main thing is, do something that you enjoy. Otherwise you won't last very long.

As regards eating etc, it's been said a million times before 5-6 meals/snacks a day. Try limit simple carbs (breads/pasta/potatoes) to before/after exercise.
Plenty of fresh fruit/veg with meals, aim for 1 piece at least up to dinner time where 4-5 is more appropriate.

Aim to cut out anything that is processed from your diet ie (biscuits/tv dinners/breaded poultry/fish)
