How do I set up an adhoc network? (ubuntu)

    I'm trying out some cms software on my laptop after installing the ubuntu-lamp package. It works fine on my laptop because all I have to do is point my browser to 127.0.0.1, but as I'm trying to create the site with some friends, I'd want them to see the content too.

    As far as I understand, this means setting up a wireless ad-hoc network.

    I've tried doing that following this post, but here's my output from the command:
    $ sudo iwconfig ath0 mode ad-hoc
    Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
        SET failed on device ath0 ; Invalid argument.

    If you understand what it is I'm trying to do here, I'd appreciate the help. Is it just that my wireless card can not start an ad-hoc network?

    Thanks for any help.
