Guilty pleasures?

So - maybe youre girlfriend has made you sit through a chick flick (or your boyfriend has force-fed you one too many Arnie or Sly movies), or maybe there was nothing else on the TV so you decided to give it a watch - but what films have you enjoyed when you know you really shouldnt? I'll start the ball rolling with

The Notebook - yes I am a big softie after all....
A Walk to Remember - less big softie, more total wuss....

Ye shall not be judged in this thread :D

The new Star Wars films :o I think I was just the right age seeing Episode One to not come out of it cynically. Three I also think is a great and enjoyable film.

I have no guilty pleasures, just pleasures.

Honestly, I wouldn't care what anyone would think of what I watch, so there's no reason to feel guilty.

And nobody should feel guilty about watching Demolition Man!

I'm not ashamed of any film I enjoy, though I've been told there are a few I should such as The Lake House, American Dreamz, Life and Lyrics.

rambo: first blood part II - oh god what a terrible movie, but for whatever reason i just have to watch it when it comes on tv (like last friday night)

Hudson Hawk : bruce willis sings, he steals stuff, falls in love.......did he play the same character in oceans twelve ??

the goonies : is it really a guilty pleasure ?? well if you are a 29yr old man watching a kids movie.......prob !!

the princess bride : for the same reason stated above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭Jonesy3110

Tron, everyone laughed at me for liking it, then all of a sudden everyone loved it :( Hate it when that happens! Same thing happened to me with nightmare before christmas!

V for Vendetta, Everyone I know thought this was crap, but I loved it!

Oh and I'm a sucker for crappy horror sequels. Hellraiser 1-9 (especially 3, I find myself not blinking for the whole nightclub massacre scene), Leprechaun and all its sequels like Leprechaun: In da Hood, and Leprechaun: Back in Da hood (real movies, I swear) and all the Childs Plays, Friday the 13th, and Halloween. Oh and Children of the Corn, 1-6 (i think theres 6) especially 3 - Urban Harvest. Oh Yeah.

Ah yeah I like Hudson Hawk too.
I've never really thought of The Princess Bride as a kid's film. I'm 37, I love it! In fact, I watched again on Saturday night :o

big trouble in little china - last great john capenter movie, great comedy performance from kurt russell, and a really fun movie to watch with friends.

road house - puts dirty dancing in a whole new light.

the green mile - last movie i admit crying at the end (wimp that i am)

mallrats - under-rated kevin smith flick that demands more than one viewing

guilty pleasures for me - cause every time I mention liking these flicks, I get the **** slagged out of me (and in some cases for good reason)

    Goonies
    Princess Bride
    A Little Princess
    Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    Stone Cold
    Bad Seed
Nightmare on Elm Street (all of them)
    Transporter/Crank

probably loads I am forgetting - I like my cheese cheesy and crap craptacular :)

Nothing to feel guilty about with those classics (Same goes for Die Hard series and Demolition man)

I lose it at chick flicks as the mushy scenes turn me off them immediately. My guilty pleasure would be Transporter 2, absolutlely stupid film but also absolutely hilarious. Some people don't seem to understand the intended over-the-top sequences (He detaches a bomb off his car by flipping it on a ramp and letting a crane hook take it off, letting it explode and thus allowing our hero to land safely on his wheels, ridiculously hilarious!)

well i suppose I feel guilty bout them as I feel they are the definition of a guilty pleasure, which i would say is "a film that is considered to be of a questionable quality, or of kitch value, that is enjoyed for its sheer fun factor and appeal"

but you are right, i dont really feel guilty bout them, just that other people would make me feel guilty for watching them, like spongebob squarepant the movie (which is one of the funniest films i have ever seen). of course most people that will hammer you for watching these films have a) never seen them and b) are absolutly no fun !!

    some more :

jaws 3(d) - it is a ridiculous, but that moment at the end with the shark.....gets me every time. funniest movie ever !!!

omen 2 - the death sequences people !!!!

bugsy malone - kids with guns shooting other kids with cream splurges while singing and dancing........can it get any better ?? oh yes it can.....cars that you pedal !!

I actually watched You, Me and Dupree a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty funny. But then I also liked One Night at McCools.

Btw Days Of Thunder should never be listed as a guilty pleasure. Rubbin's Racin!! And the immortal line: We ended up lookin like a monkey f**ckin a football!!

Crank is one of the finest films ever made. I've sen it 31 times since it was released in cinemas, it's my new default film for when I can't decide what to watch.

Transporter is rather good also. Hell it's from Luc Besson so you know it's going to be good.
