There are links in the Fitness links to places you can purchase protein. Most proteins contain a little carb, those with none are expensive. Protein shakes are just a waste of money though if the rest of your diet is not 100%. Protein shakes are a supplement, as in to supplement your diet.

I use USN (Ultimate Sport Nutrition). It's very reliable because they're highly regulated and very strict about what they use. I find them very helpful in puttin on bulk when I'm training.

I used them constantly when I was training down in South Africa. I was in the gym doing weights 5 days a week so I was taking 3 shakes a day to supplement my usual meal of pasta/potatoes &meat etc...

Obviously the amount you use is related to the amount you train. Don't overuse the stuff because it may do some damage to your liver if you take too much because your body can't assimilate it if there's too much.

Anyway, use USN. They have a uk site USN.co.uk and they list all of their products along with what each one does and is used for.

There's no point in taking them if you're not training hard i.e; ripping the muscles or burning serious amounts in cardio

Also, the pronutrition.ie sells USN stuff too if you want to go with that.

if you are looking for a protein low in carbs well steer clear of USN then. They hav the highest amounts of carbs in their shakes. Lowest would be something like Pro-X

Most companies are strict about the stuff that goes into their protein shakes. I personally use either ProNutition.ie 's stuff or ON Ultimate Whey. They're both good.

This is not strictly true. Taking large amounts of protein is safe once you have no underlying kidney issues and are drinking sufficient water (which you should be doing anyway). The amount of training you do will have no part in whether protein causes kidney damage or not.

I would somewhat agree with this; there's not a lot of point in taking supplements unless your training and diet are up to scratch first. Protein shakes are in some ways an exception to this rule, especially for those people who often do not have the time to get enough protein from whole foods.
