The Girls Cars Thread

If you're a man, and drive one of these, maybe you should think of changing it. Or go to Thailand for the whole transformation, heard their doctors are the best in the world at that type of surgery.

Don't think anyone could argue with the Beetle. Do you drive the same car as Barbie? What type of flowers do you keep in the vase?
    Volgswagen-la-Beetle-Barbie.jpg

The MX5, the hairdressers Porsche. Yes, we know it's the best selling sports car in the world. Correction. Best selling girls sports car.

    digiads_car_ads_83375_1.jpg

The Mini is a BMW. A BMW especially designed for your wife.

    ScottMichalakRed2.jpg

The Hyundai Santa Fe, made for 35 year blonde soccer moms who want a Range Rover but can't afford it.

    Hyundai_SantaFe_030715_B.JPG

The Mercedes A Class. No man would buy one of these. Would a man call his car a "Baby Benz"?

    TheCars1.jpg

I would include anything made by Daihatsu (what man actually decides to go out and buy a nice Daihatsu) Kia and Daewoo.

Anything else that should be added so that would be male buyers should steer clear of?

What exactly is the point of all this?

I'm sensing Colm drives a girls car! Is it the Beetle?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,463 ✭✭✭KTRIC

    I drive a 8.5 lt V8 Camero , a good mans car :D

Of course I'm not trying to prove anything with it , its just a handy run-around for doing the shopping and popping in and out of town. ;)

OP lacking a certain something in the trouser department and struggling to
compensate by car purchase me thinks......... :D

Guess that's puberty for you.. fear not OP they'll drop soon and you'll have better
things to focus on than what others drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

OP probably drives a Mondeo, or a C4. Something really sensible.

I actually drive none of the above! I just think your comments on the MINI are a bit out of line though.
I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say, but, if you've actually driven a MINI, then you'll agree that there's nothing girly about the handling, or in the case of the Cooper S - the power delivery.
I'd be perfectly happy to drive a MINI, and I don't think I'd be bothered if guys with hang-ups were scared to buy one or slagged me off on a forum!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

I've spent a week in the new Beetle, and it's basically a retrimmed Golf. Quite a nice Motor TBH! The MX-5 is renowned as having class leading handling, and loved by reviewers across the board, and the SantaFe is a Sales Rep mobile, not a Soccer Mom Mobile.

I think the OP is obviously trying hard to be cool, but has little knowledge of the actual markets these cars suit.

I drive a motorcycle, not a car. But it doens't matter, girls cars are still girls cars no matter what i drive. If I had a Kia Sportage it would still be a girls car! This thread could be valuable information for car buyers. Someone could be out there, about to buy that pink Barbie VW, and not realise it's a girls car.

    Come on, more suggestions!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭astraboy

I've heard people calling the 106 a girls car. The 106Gti is probably one of the best handling and most fun FWD cars you can buy, and I'd own one with pride!:)

What type of bike do you drive? I'm sure the bike drivers (Myself included) on this thread could find something to take the piss out of there. You do realise, that the reason all these cars are on the market, is because different people like different things? Someone who tries to be cool by slotting cars into categories only ends up with egg on their face.

BTW, just so as you know, VW don't make the Beetle in pink.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,528 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

In fact, I'm pretty sure VW don't sell the Beetle in pink in this country.

Funny, I had a discussion in the pub with a mate about girls cars and I defended the Mini. He told me to simply check out the drivers behind the wheel of them while driving around. Have seen 1 bloke driver out of about 40-50 minis! So it's now a girls car in my book

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

Well, there's an ill-informed response. I sell MINIs for a living Quint, and I sell to about 60% male drivers. And I have the polaroids of people receiving the keys to their new cars to prove it pinned to a wall next to my desk. That stereotype you're trying to push on us is only an Irish misconception. In the UK, MINI is pretty much a Male dominated market, as it is in the States, and is accepted as such. I'm sure btw, that Paddy Hopkirk, and Rauno Aaltonen would disagree with you too.

So cmon, what type of bike do you ride?

So you're saying that 40-50 girls to every guy buys a MINI?. Ned, you got any thoughts on this "statistic" seeing as you sell them?

EDIT: Got there before me Ned!

Also in Ireland, Santa Fe ownership is more male than female thanks to commercial model.

First of all, 13 cars does not equal a production model. So I stand by my statement that VW do not make a Beetle in pink.

And an SP2? Real sports V-Twins are made in Italy buddy! What's that you say? I'm generalising. I guess I'm just following your example.

Fair enough but people buying the car and people driving is totally different. There is no way in hell there's 60% male drivers of minis. I'd bet you money if we walked around Dublin city for a week and looked at mini driver it wouldn't be even close to 60%.
Do it for a test, check out every mini you see, I filter past a lot of them in traffic. You're doing a good job selling them btw, there's a lot of them around.

To be fair Quint, we live at opposite ends of the Country. But you head off the the UK some day, and tell me how many men you see driving MINIs. Better still go to either miniclub.ie, or mini2.com, or motoringfile.com - all MINI sites, all dominated by males.

Besides, the thread is not just about MINIs. It's about different people wanting different cars. Choice is a great thing Quint, some people are happy with v8 Mustangs, and some people are happy with VW Lupos. To each their own.

Would an american have a thread asking if "your ma" was still a legitimate slag? Surely i would have said "your momma" or something like that.

have to agree with quint on the amount of women mini drivers around dublin. I see piles of them every day, very few guys driving them. 60% men driving them is just not possible in my opinon. I'd say only 1 in 10 minis I see every day are driven by men. There are 4 in the development I'm in all driven by women and about 10 in work all by women too. However most smallish 'premium' cars are the same.

as for the websites being dominated by males? you are having a laugh! of course they are dominated by men, they're feckin car nerd websites!
you may as well say boards is 80%+ male therefore the population of ireland must therefore be 80% male.

Yeah, the other cars. My friend works in a Hyundai garage, and he reckons a lot of guys buy the Santa Fe, especially the commercial version. Does the OP want to clarify if his comments are based on his experience of the Irish market, or a more broad observation?

Yay some support! Obviously a lot of men buying them for daughters/wives. Seriously though, I've actually been looking out for mini drivers (after that pub conversation) and can honestly say they're overwhelmingly female - around Dublin anyway.
Nice few bikes over the years, have you taken a spin on an SP2? Never on a Ducati, so I can't compare. Like the idea of a big sports v twin, and honda combination.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

Drove the SP1, not the 2. By all acounts the 2 sorts out the snatchy fuel injection at low revs that the 1 was plagued from. Always had a soft spot for the SP's after watching Joey at the 2000 IOM TT.

No arguing with that. Scientificly prooven! Colm, does this "friend" really exist? This thread is a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously, no need to make up friends to try and proove a point! For the record, I stand by my original Santa Fe comments. Girls car.

You should say hello on the forum in my Sig Poptart. British Racing Green is a great colour for a classic Mini too!

guys, lighten up. This is actually pretty entertaining.

I'd agree about all the cars mentioned. Minis seem to be occupied more by women drivers than men. The MX-5, not so much but it still has that girly image.

Punto is another one i reckon. Though i used to own one, bought it from a girl and sold it to a girl and i see girls driving them more than say a Civic or 306.

    Almera?

Actually the car park in work is shared with a bank on the 1st foor and its almost all women working there. Car park is FULL of puntos, almeras and 316s....

New mini is a fabulous car, although not for the purists admittedly.

Ned78 has the easiest job in Ireland, in that the cars sell themselves ;)

Old mini=unmitigated fun, but you'd want to keep it in a bubble as they dissolve in water faster than a Bisodol.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭astraboy

Pug 206CC. Its a 206. Ok so far. There is even a decent gti version. But chop off the roof and it turns into a compete girls car, or a car for puffs!:D No man will ever look cool in one. A mini Cooper S on the other hand, has either a supercharger or turbo under the bonnet depending on the year. It gets my vote in the cool stakes!:)

That's why I cry when I see one of the cleanest examples of an old style Mini kept in the open beside the seaside. It'll just turn to dust if kept in it's location. So if you live on the Dublin rd. in Sutton and own a green Mini, do the right thing and protect your lovely car.;)

I have to admit I always check out MINI drivers and the majority of the time they're driven by women and I actually feel disappointed when I see a man driving one (sorry ned:o )
