    Hi all.

    First time poster here.

I used to be quite fit and athletic a few years ago (was even a cross country champion at the age of 17) but now only a few years older at 23 (!) im now overweight, have a beer belly and am very unfit. Between a hectic college life and now a hectic working life I have lost control of my weight. I drink like a fish at the weekends and sex is the only exercise i get!

I work from 6.30AM to 10 PM 5 days a week and 9AM - 8 PM on Saturdays so finding the time / energy to exercise is difficult.

Anyhu, Im trying to make a serious effort to get back in shape and am looking for some good advice. I was recently given an air glider (similar to this http://www.argos.co.uk/wcsstore/argos/images/3352793A60IFN120106M.JPG) Are these any good for cardiovascular workouts??

    All comments / advice welcome.

To lose weight you are going to have to work on your diet, excercise (resistance and cardio) is an important part too but if you diet is not in order these wont work alone. read the information contained in the stickies and get yourself a diet plan sorted. Give up/ Cut down on the booze will make a big difference

Personally i am not a big fan of cardio machines but if you find an excercise that you enjoy is chalenging and you will stick too then your on your way to achieving your fitness goals. Considering how busy your schedule is could you prehaps cycle to work? it builds your excercise into your day rather than it being something to do when you get home in the evening!

You're situation is not unusual. Lot's of people have very full work lives or family lives that don't lend themselves terribly well to getting fit. It's not easy, so you have to put your thinking cap on.

If you take where you are now as a starting point, and consider that anything positive you do exercise, or diet wise from now on is a step in the right direction. Any exercise is good exercise when you are going from a situation of not getting any exercise, so that air walker will be fine to get yourself started. Any improvements in your diet will be positive - one less drinking day a week, one less snackbar a day. Small steps is the way to go - once the steps are in the right direction.

If your on the road the whole time, it might be an idea to try and bring a packed lunch with you when you have the time to prepare it, rather than stopping off at garages and snacking etc. A good thing to do would be to make sure you get a good breakfast before you leave in the morning. If you get a lunch break (I hope you do) at some stage during the day, try and walk for half an hour or so before you eat your lunch.

Don't loose hope - everyone will have some false starts before they really get going, just make sure you pick yourself up and try again. Best of luck

P.S that sounds like a horrible job, hope you enjoy it. If not, you might consider changing job/career in the long term for a better work/life balance.
