this is set for release on the 7th of july, not sure if thats just us or if its worldwide.

this looks fantasic, the only problem is that its a michael bay film. i hope its not all style and no substance like some of his previous blockbusters.

It's due out on the July 4th, worldwide I think.

Can't wait, Michael Bay knows how to do brilliant car chases so I know theres gonna be something spectacular in there.

saw trailer once or twice, looks like a rip off of alot of sci fi tv shows, eg.battlestar galactica, etc.

    i shall love it :D

As monkeyfudge has said, many of us have been following this on the transforum. The trailers are great although the jury is still out on optimus prime's lack of faceplate! Still though the original actor who voiced him in the cartoon, Peter Cullen, is voicing him in the film. Hugo Weaving is doing megatron's voice.

Ad looks good. I'd be excited now if it wasn't Michael Bays show. :(

As much as I've been pontificating (to my mates) about how this is a Michael Bay film, and Michael Bay films have a history of sucking ass, I have to say, that last trailer really did pique my interest. Maybe, just MAYBE, it'll be all right!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭MooseJam

what movies has michael bay done, looked him up on imdb but i must have a wrong spelling as not the result i expected, just said he had done one film

Pearl Harbour, Bad Boys, The Island, Armageddon, The Rock... pretty much all sh*te films really.

euww, and i was really looking forward to it , arse :(

Bad Boys and The Rock were good action flicks to be fair. The action scenes in pearl harbour had some great effects. Other than that tho...

Also remember Spielberg's name is attached too. (remember poltergeist and the "controlling" he did of Tobe Hooper on that??)

could be worse. Paul Anderson could have signed up to direct...

When I heard Michael Bay was making it I was worried. However after watching the trailers I'm convinced this film will be at least a fun action fest with giant f***ing robots! :D
If there is a half decent storyline attached then so be it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Well it's very hard to f*ck up a film about giant fighting robots... but I'm willing bet Bay will be able to manage it.

    I loved Pearl Harbour..

    *runs out of thread frantically*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Its okay, I loved approximately 40 minutes of Pearl Harbour.

Bay is great at doing action scenes. Thats about it. Apparently Transformers has 22 acton scenes. Stick to what you're good at I say!

    yeah, you BETTER run

That trailer is fairly convincing, and they kept the original transforming sound effect!

yeah, 27th of july. ****ing suits :(. the press screenings were last friday in the UK (22nd june) so you should be seeing some reviews come the 1st july (according to furman, who wrote the comic and got an invite to the screening , theres a gagging order on reviews till then. but he did say while he has some reservations its an unmissable action film and the characters are pretty much faithfull. especially prime ).

i'll be honest and say i was a bit worried about the micheal bay thing till you realise he really is good at insane action so if speilberg can reign in his excesses with a cohesive plot it should be good. besides they really did incorporate alot of the lore into this. i just wish the allspark couldve been called the matrix. thank you very much keanu reeves  :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

    reeves is a legend!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Oh come now, Keanu is more brickish than the original Transformers toys.

I saw on wikipedia spielberg wanted the films focus to be about a boy and his car. I just want to see prime and megatron duking it out ffs.

I'm off to see it tonight!!! For once Australia get's a release before Europe.

    I can't wait.

It's getting decent enough reviews over here too. The consensus seems to be that if you were a fan as a kid then you'll love it, which is good enough for me.

Yup ... cant decide if i should go to sky city IMAX or Gold class ... or maybe Sylvia Park (biggest screen in world !!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Skittlebrau

I haven't tried Gold Class yet but it's tempting. Is it worth $35 for a Laz-e-Boy though?

em.....in dublin you can get coke holders with holes in them for 35 euro.......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Skittlebrau

Kind of impossible to give a balanced review on this. I was as excited as a little kid as soon as I sat down.

I loved it though. Defiintely not perfect but enough great things about it to make it fantastic.

I nearly shed a tear when Prime said "Autobots.......roll out".

Cinema was full of 20something males (to be expected) and people clapped at the end. Have only seen that in the States before.

apparently the story is the suits dont think its good enough to go up against harry potter.

FFS i like potter as much as the next guy but theres a world of difference between bloke on a broom and thirty foot metal killing machines ! its unforgivable to push it back that much and i reckon it'll cost em with the pirates. only a matter of time before they make their way from australia

im actually surprised the critics like it though . i thought they'd hate it

No they didn't. It's only got 61% on rottentomatoes and a rating of 45% from their "Cream of the Crop" whereas Transformers currently is at 86% (although that's a lot of more fanboy site reviews, such as IGN).

Out in Australia last week. Not too bad. Real cheesy, but a bit of fun. Doesn't warrant much more comment except to say little kids will probably like it more than those who watched the cartoon when they were kids.

Have to say I'd disagree. Me and the girlfriend both loved the cartoon as kids and loved the film. There were hardly any kids in the cinema and we reckoned that it was because we loved it as kids that it was so good.

Maybe that's just us of course. ;)

Watched it on Sunday night on a massive IMAX screen. Really helped the viewing experience. Really enjoyed the movie. Good fun, great action scenes. My only problem was the lack of screen time for most of the Decepticons, especially Starscream :(
