We all have our favourites we remember but what about the ones you'd love to forget??

James Bond Jr. on the SNES for me. Thank christ we never owned it, my friend owned it and it was just terrible........it was as if the game was designed by a corpse!
NES graphics, diarohea sound and mind-numbingly bad gameplay.

Eurgh, just thinking of it is giving me the shlts!

Spectre on the SNES, picked it up cheap but not cheap enough to be worth while. Horrible sphere based pseudo 3d graphics, useless music and all the playability of self-flagellation.

Don't know why I haven't yet ritually destroyed the cart, but tbh it's always a source of hope in dark times (as in "no matter what goes wrong I can always look forward to taking a hammer to that bastard game") - and believe me, it's such a bad game that such thoughts would see you through dark times indeed.

:p lol, I remember that game! I never played it but I remember the countless amounts of bashing it got in reviews in magazines (Some of them were hilarious!)

None of you have played Dark Castle on the Mega Drive. For the love of god don't touch the game.

Gotta love the killer stairs in that game...
    Possibly the worst Megadrive game.

    WRONG.
It's for the atari 2600. Which is an 8-bit machine.

    Wow, did not know that,

    My apologies.

Atari 8-bit family for anyone who's interested.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_8-bit_family

The Nes and Master System would be considered late 8-bit.

I guess that's where i made the mistake,

Couldn't compare 2600 games like centipede with stuff like mario3 on nes

There was a game on the Commodore 64 called "The Double" that one of my friends owned. It was a football management sim but was truely one of the worst games ever, it was kinda like getting enjoyment from playing MS Excel.

We later found out that Zzap 64 magazine had awarded it something like 9 percent!!!

OK ... I should have said rumour or urban legend instead ...:o

still ... ET was the worst game I ever played ... I think that was the day my childhood ended.

    !
I remember renting that out for my cousins snes about 12+ years ago. What a bad game it was. I think it got two plays and then was brought straight back.

Actually, Primal Rage is somewhere near the top of my crap list too. (Just remembered it when you mentioned rentals...) What a crock of crap it was, it almost made Rise Of The Robots seem decent.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on the Megadrive was rubbage. :( *buries cartridge*

Those Amsoft titles that came bundled with the Amstrad machines were mostly stinking piles of poo.

I remember renting out Cliffhanger too (Did they actually sell a copy?) Crappy game alright, I remember the early stages where you shoot bastards and that annoying level where you're legging it from an avalanche.

Urgh, anyone remember Shaq-Fu? Jesus tap-dancing Christ!! Who in flying ****s name gave the green light to that?

"What idea have you got for a game today Thompson?"
    "Uh.....*panicing cuz he didn't bother*.........well, sir.......how about weeeee.....eh, get Shaq O'Neill and...........eh.......make a kung-fu game around him....ahem!!"
    "...................I LOVE IT!!!!"
    "Wh........wha?"

I think I remember some blatant advertising in it (Pepsi vending machines that had some sort of purpose)

Play Vigilante on the C64 for 10 minutes without killing yourself, it's a tough challenge.

I remember them being awesome at the time.

    Aww.

    Aww.

    Harrier Attack
    Roland on the ropes
    Roland in the caves
    Oh Mummy!
    Bridge-it
    Wordhang
    Animal Vegetable Mineral
    Easi-Amsword
    Fruit Machine
    The Galactic Plague
    Sultan's Maze
    Timeman One

To be honest, I thought most of these were pretty good at the time. That was until I gained access to the liberating world of the twin tape-deck. ;)

That was going to be my pick too. God that was awful. And awful about 2 fps to boot.

Cobra (Stallone) on the C64 was king of Poo droppings.... that scrolling horizontal platform had the ropiest sprite detection known to man. The music was a grating repetitive tune.

Home alone 2 for the nes. worst game I've ever bought. Actually, I gave my older bro money and asked him to get me a game as he was going into town and he came home with that shlte. I'm convinced he did it on purpose too just to piss me off!

I remember playing a game called ELF on the atari st...sweet jesus it was CACK.
Pretty much ANY arcade conversion by ocean back in the day was guaranteed to be muck. Afterburner, Cabal, Toki, Shadow dancer, all ****e. (arcade games were good tho)
Primal rage, had that on the mega drive, absolute crap. Shadow of the beast 2 on the mega drive was crap too.

I agree that Elf was pants but I slating there arcade conversions!!!

What about Rainbow islands, Midnight Resistance, TNZS, Chase HQ or Pang? All excellent conversions imo given the limited hardware specs of the home systems.

I reckon most people here have a favorite game/ old school memory revolving around something the folks at ocean created:cool:

I seem to remember having a game called Elf on the Amiga and it was pretty good.

Was it a street fighter style beat'em'up where you had elves knocking the heads off each other and coins would pop out when you hit your opponent?

The graphics were exceptionally good and it fitted onto just 3 discs.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 2,975 Mod ✭✭✭✭LoGiE

Your thinking of Elfmania. That actually was a pretty good game! But what was with the coins? It's not freakin Mario!!

    Awful title.

Finnish developer so I think the title was lost in translation... It's up there with Body Blows as one of the good beat'em'ups on the the Amiga.

Rise of the bleedin' Robots      I'd put all thoughts of that abomination out of my head until just now. The triumph of marketing over the plausible ... terrible game.

Lets not forget Rise 2: Resurrection..... I remember getting hold of Rise of the robots (All 12 disks?) and never bothered again after the second fight. Nice looking game but so SO lacking in playability. I seem to remember a popular Amiga Mag giving this a positive review at the time.... Amazing what a big enough advertising budget can do for a title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

I remember they made a big deal out of getting Brian May to do the music for Rise of the Robots... and it turned out to just be a few listless guitar strums over the intro.

Did anyone play the Captain Planet game on the Amiga? It was one of the first games I played on my Amiga as it came with the pack and it was all a bit silly... On the first level you had to plug the holes in the ozone layer so some Seals could use it to cross to safety... what's that all about?

If anything, Rise of the Robots was a great way of getting some cheap floppy discs.

i did say MOST, not all ;)
There were some good ocean conversions, but alot of em were pretty feeble. i loved TNZS on my st, chase hq i remember not being great, pang was an awesome conversion and one of the few games that was all round superior to the amiga version (the ST version i mean was better than amiga version).
Midnight resistance..yeah it was good, but one of those games whos box i ended up tearing up with a knife i got so frustrated. If anyone ever palyed street fighter 2 on the amiga/atari you will know the true horror of awful arcade conversions

Well they have an impressive list of clangers alright.... Cool World being a major Dud along with Sleepwalker.
Two of my favorite movie tie in's were Batman and The Adams Family, the later probably being one of the best platformers ever released on the amiga.

I loved Midnight Resistance in the Arcade so I played it to death on the C64. It was tough and unforgiving but gave me that Ghouls and Ghosts level of satisfaction when I beat it. It also had one of the best SID tunes on the C64!:D

I was bought SF2 for the Amiga at christamas and got great enjoyment out of it. Had the Snes version never existed it probably wouldn't have been as bad. I mean making a game that uses 6 buttons in the arcade only use one on a home system was never going to be a good idea was it!

I don't know about you lot but even when rise of the robots was released I thought it looked awful. The digitisation was really blocking and most moves were only 2 frames of animation at most.

Static shots on high-end PCs(of the time) looked nice, but even on such mighty beasts as a 75Mhz Pentium it was a complete joke once you saw it in motion. I nearly burst my hole laughing when I heard that the fighters couldn't jump over each other because they hadn't bothered drawing them facing more than one direction.

Not sure about the amiga version but the ST had to use push scrolling in SF2, jesus chist, talk about tragic.
Addams family was a great game, it was easily the home computers sonic or mario. It was weird, i 'acquired' a copy of it a while ago, and as soon as i started a game i remembered straight off how to get to the secret room where there was like 99 lives...the stuff you remember :D

Those static shots were just the renders before they were digitised set up to look like the game. No actual shots of the game in action were released until the review copies were sent out and many of the 'exclusive reviews' were written before any review code was even touched. There was better digitisation on master system games.
