ankle "popping"

    I've had this problem since I was a kid but it comes and goes. It's back at the moment with a vengence. When I run my ankle gets tighter and tighter until it pops, my foot gives way underneath me and I stumble, and then it's fine for rest of the run. I'm used to it but can be a bit annoying. The regulars in my gym are well used to seeing me fall off sometime during the first three mins and then hop back on with no problems. Does anyone know what causes it???
