Another Knee Trouble Question

    Hi,

Inspired by the previous thread could I ask a few questions - sorry if they are repetitious.

I have experienced pain down the inside (not the front) of my knees for well over a year now - it comes on from running or doing things like burpees etc. and if I try to kneel/get on my hunkers with my 2 year old son for more than a few seconds I have to stand up. I am 38 and have exercised moderately most of my life. I have a few questions which would be very grateful if people could look at:

If the pain starts on the inside of the knee at the top and runs all the way down are the likely causes the same as listed above i.e. Poor hip flexibility and Weak inner quad muscles?

What is the specific stretch and/or exercise to remedy this?

I have started taking Omega 3 oil after reading the 'Udo' thread - will this help or is it grasping at straws?

Could anyone recommend a good physio who might be able to get to the bottom of the problem - I have tried a couple over the last couple of years but get conflicting opinions?

Apologies for all the questions - I would really appreciate any help.

    thanks
    Dave

try a physio, they cost 50 for one session but they have a good chance of diagnosing you and starting to sort it. it could be anything really, I have been to 3 physios and 2 doctors with one operation on my knee and its still in bits, although if i had got it sorted earlier it might not have been too bad.

there is one in Grafton Medical Centre who was good, when i get some cash I may visit Kevin Morans bro to rule out my ACL - cant think of his first name though sorry.

Not saying for definite that this is it, but it sounds very like a similar problem I had about 10 years ago, sharp pains down the inside of my knee and difficulty crouching down. Initially the doctor thought it was a cartilage problem and I had an arthroscopy to check it, but nothing was found. I then started going to a physio and after a while she figured out what the problem was. When I walked I was going slightly outwards on my foot, and that was stretching the ligament on the inside of my knee. That in itself wasn't too bad, but at the time I bowled a fair bit and it turned out that I was exaggerating the outward movement when I released the ball. I got a pair of orthotics for my bowling shoes and that sorted the problem out. I never really needed to wear them day-to-day, but I do still use them when I'm playing golf.

Call_me_al, Kevin Moran's brother is Ray Moran. He's the guy who did my arthroscopy. I'm currently seeing Gary O'Toole for a completely unrelated knee problem and he's very good too.
