Great stuff, nice poster, but dammit Richie could do with a few sunbed sessions!.

Btw, Richie Moore & Brad Corbally SBGn are fighting up north this weekend. Best of luck to both.

Looking forward to seeing Richie in R.o.T. VII. I don't think I've ever seen a fighter with as much appetite for a scrap!.

    Pro Fight Focus

    International Fight

Tim Murphy (UL) v Navid Yousefi (Hilti Sweden)

Tim Murphy (4-3) is no stranger to Irish MMA fans. Probably best known for his involvement in what must be considered the best FW fight Ireland has seen against the Rowdy one Owen Roddy. In an incredibly close fight which he almost won with his combination of hard accurate striking and slick grappling Tim became a fan favourite. However travel and college have kept him out of the ring for over a year....but now HE'S BACK!

His opponent is Navid Yousefi (1-2-2) from the very successful Hilti BJJ gym in sweden. He actually has a similar enough martial arts background to Tim with being a former national TKD team member, national and international TKD open champ '99 but like all 'strikers' he has added a strong ground game to his arsenal.

Will Tim's year out badly affect his performance against the active swedish fighter? Will this be a TKD style MMA battle? Find out July 28th at the national stadium :)

tickets will only be available from fighters, mullen sports and SBG 0876768911 for details

    Kickass! Best of luck Tim!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,084 ✭✭✭mark.leonard

My money is on Tim all the way. The word on the UG is that he has re-located to train with a new camp of nationally renowned fighters :), Navid Youseffi defeated Micky Young at the last UFR and looked like a real ground specialist, though IMO Micky wasn't as up for it that day as he has been at other times. It will be a powder keg of a match I reckon, can't wait!

    Best of luck Tim..

I was on the Tim Murphy Supporters Wagon. I had my t-shirt and all.
And then you had to go and refer to yourself in the third person...

Learned everything I know from watching Tito Ortiz video clips, the third person thing is an unfortunate but unavoidable side effect.

Excellent to see Tim back on the circuit. All we need know is for Mick Leonard to come out of retirement. The mick/tim superfight rematch may yet be the summer blockbuster of 2007.

Not wanting to burst your bubble Mark but I think the re-location is more down to work than training camp.... not that the camps in UG are not top notch they are.

    Hi,

How is the tournament going to work ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭SBG Ireland

4th man announced for the €1000 4-man tournament!

    Alan The Cannon Hannon

Alan has had a run of BIG KO victories which have brought him right up the ladder of the uber stacked 70kg division...of course this tournament puts him in with one of the other top 70kg fighters Tom 'Lights Out' MaGuire. Will they face off in the first round or have to battle it out against the international fighters to make it to the final?? The brackets will be announced on Wednesday....

the semi-pro fights.... there will be 3 semi pro fights on the stacked card at the National Stadium July 28th

Tony Keogh (WVT) v Kevin Crooke (Spartan MMA)
Thomas Egan (SBG) v Daniel Schöb (GTT) MW
Aisling Daly (SBG) v Annika Sitter (GTT) 60kg

Kevin Crooke has beaten Tony Keogh in the MMA League...tony feels it will be different with 'head shots'....

The Tank will be looking for his 2nd win when he takes on tough international opponent Daniel Schob from the highly respected German Top Team.

Ais the Bash features in Ireland's first female semi-pro rules MMA fight against the slick grappler Annika Sitter also from the German Top Team. Ais's unrelenting style of constant aggression (competiveness ;) ) made her a fan favourite in Denmark where she had her first victory and no doubt Irish fans will be treated to an 'adrenaline' rush when she steps into the ring

tickets will only be available from fighters, mullen sports and SBG 0876768911 for details

    4-Man Tournament Brackets

Fight 1 Alan The Cannon Hannon v Daniel 'Rednose' Ackerman

Alan will put his right hand cannon to the test against one of German's top grapplers
Daniel is a true professional in Submission Wrestling and MMA. In 2001 he entered the "Ultimate Grappling Challenge" in Mössingen to become the European Champion in Submission Wrestling. In 2003 he repeated his success and conquered the crown of the European Champion for the second time at UGC 4. In December 2003 he gave his MMA debut against the German SHIDO MMA Grand Prix Champion Guiseppe Burgio at "Fists of Fury 3" and won impressively in under a minute via armbar. Only a couple of month later Daniel gave his international Pro debut at Vikingfight V: Best of Best in Copenhagen, where he fought under professional SHOOTO rules against the danish BJJ Champion Julian Nguyen

Fight 2 Thomas 'Lights Out' MaGuire v Erikas Petraitis

Thomas will have his hands full against the extremely tough 'ground n pound' style of Erikas.

so will we have an 'all irish' final between 2 of ireland's best 70kg fighters??

    we'll see july 28th :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭SBG Ireland

Martin 'The Heat' Begley (from Antrim MMA) will be an alternate for the 4-man tournament. should someone have to pull out with injury Martin will take their place. Martin lost by TKO in the 2nd round to Irish No.1 Greg 'The Hitman' Loughran at UFR 8 after a very exciting fight. He's a great addition to the card.

Owen Roddy's opponent should be secured by the end of the week....

Richie 'The Animal' Moore (SBGN) v Colin Laird (Kyoujin) LHW

Richie must be considered one of the most entertaining and enthusiastic fighters on the Irish circuit right now. with a win over the current UK CageKombat Champion on his record Richie always brings a tough fight to his opponents.

Colin has been with Kyoujin for a long time.He recently had a win at the cagefight series in Ipswich defeating a tough Lithuainian fighter after 3 rounds. He is only back after a lay off of over two years, his come back fight was against Stevie Lynch at the UFR semi pro series again the fight went the full distance and he lost on points.

both of these big guys will be looking to add another 'W' to their records July 28th

Rowdy Owen Roddy v Emmanuel "Pythagoras" Fernandez

Owen is the No.1 MMA and Submission fighter in the country. He has first round wins over some of Ireland's best MMA fighters including Micky Young and Kevin McAlonan. Recently he ran through the national submission championships submitting all his opponents in impressive style. Owen can do it all, fast hands and devasting knees in the Stand up and rapid fire submissions on the ground.

Emmanuel Fernandez is a BJJ black belt and Judo 3rd dan is a former member of the French ju jitsu fighting team and a former Cage Warriors featherweight champion. He has fought in both Cage Rage and Cage Warriors in the UK beating the elite of the UK featherweight division including Pete Tiarks, Ian Butlin and UFC veteran Leigh Remedios. Always ready to take up a challenge, this top 10 European featherweight stepped up a weight category at short notice to take on rising Japanese star Ganjo Tetsuku and came close to sinking a fight ending rear naked choke in the first round before losing a close decision.

this has the potential to be fight of the night

Goodluck to Owen ,he has all the tools to win this fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,857 ✭✭✭Valmont

Is the nickname 'pythagoras' something to do with triangle chokes?

Roddy's right knee is a force to be reckoned with, I hope his opponent has strong ribs!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭inmate2

Holy jebus what a fight card :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 236 ✭✭droc

Yes, Emmanuel earned the nickname when he beat four top UK fighters all by triangle in the first round.

We're looking forward to this fight with Owen, who has proven himself as the top featherweight in Ireland and a very tough competitor.

dont call it a come back...

'Sissy boy' Mick Leonard v Frederic Fernandez

Despite being a BJJ brown belt, Fred Fernandez has a mean streak and likes to bang. He shocked the UK public with his punching power in his MMA debut when he KO'd British Judo team member James Lutman in the second round. He continued to win in the UK, beating UKMMAC champion Mark Chen and stepping out of his weight category to take on former Cage Warriors champion Paul Sutherland. Fred also holds a 16 second KO over UK up and comer Ashleigh Grimshaw and a first round submission win over UFR champion James Doolan.

The King of the Slam was on a crazy winning streak when he was competing 2 years ago with wins over current Irish No.1 LW Greg Loughran. Although he has been out of the ring for about 2 years now his form has returned at a very fast pace and he wanted a tough fight to test himself. Well at FW you don't get much tougher than Emmanuel's brother Fred.

Willy the Sissy one be able to shake off the ring rust and return to winning ways against this tough French man? July 28th we'll find out...

tickets will only be available from fighters, mullen sports and SBG 0876768911 for details
