Now that the fight is minutes away, perhaps its time for a thread so we can commentate on the fight ourselves. After all, the other thread is only camp notes. Lets get ready to rumble!

Both fighters looked in tremendous shape at the weigh-in. Its obvious that De La Hoya is the fan favourite but nice move by Mayweather getting 50 Cent in his corner to try psyche out DLH. ;)

I honestly believe this will be an epic fight, one of the very few that actually lives up to expectations. If both men are in the right state of mind and at the top of their game, then this could even exceed those expectations!

    Minutes away?

There's at least one fight yet before the big one.
Hopefully there won't be any more as I can't be arsed staying up all night for it.

2 undercard fights as far as I know..

And yes, its minutes away for those of us who have been waiting for this for months...

Good idea but boards usually goes down at 3 for about half a hour

Mayweather Sr. looks incredibly like the Predator...

The 2 undercard fights have been very entertaining - lets hope the main event can follow suit!

Celebrities sure are out in force tonight, such a huge, huge night in boxing. The sport really has needed a high profile bout such as this.

    Predictions folks?

My head says Mayweather on points but my heart says Mayweather, knockout in round 7 :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭Nothingcompares

the two fights sky showed, showed empty seats and uninterested fans

Would not be a big upset
having said that i say mayweather stops it late very late

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Some absolutely outstanding defensive work by mayweather here... Dont let the crowd fool you - DLH is not connecting with these...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,246 ✭✭✭ROCKMAN

true but he did win R2

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Mayweather isnt used to having to solely punch off the defence. He's not used to having to react.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,246 ✭✭✭ROCKMAN

IS the fast start going to be his downfall later??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,453 ✭✭✭evil_seed

for me the fight is pretty normal. the usuak sky hype ****e. so far i have i 3 rounds to 2 in favour of oscar

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Mayweather starting to show his true self. This is a very intense fight, both fighters stepping up to the plate. Mayweather is just breath-taking with the offence straight off the defence, and after 6 rounds, Im giving this one to Pretty Boy. 3 rounds each, but Mayweather has accumulated more points IMO. Oscar being far too keen, leaving himself criminally open on his offence and its undoing him.

Edit: Looks like round 7 was Mayweathers breather round.

listing to the commentary i must be watching a different fight hoya is throwing alot of punches but mayweather is doing a great spoiling defence not many clean shots getting through mayweather is the cleaner

DLH has tired immensely after in round 10. He's making errors, like going on the offence without throwing punches and not blocking on the backstep. I reckon he has done enough to edge it so far, but this is so tight that I dare not call it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Last round - whoever takes this, takes the fight imo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

    PRETTY BOY TAKES IT!!!!!!!!!

    Fully deserved!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭Nothingcompares

DLH more aggressive, FMW more clinical.
    FMW rocked him more.
DLH gassed in final 2 rounds.

    Fair decision, close, FMW deserved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,791 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

Was the fight worth all the hype?

    you think he'll quit now?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 112 ✭✭AS_PokerKing

mayeather said it was a "boxing masterpiece" hahahahahaha he ran scared for most of it and his corner consistently told him to "hang on and tie Oscar up" wat a load of boll*x De La Hoya was much better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,246 ✭✭✭ROCKMAN

good fight not a classic but very good, I agree with the decision Mayweather was the cleaner and sharper throughout the fight. Hoya was aggressive but a very high % of his shots were missing the target.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Get over it Poker King - De La Hoya's lack of stamina was the clinching factor. Mayweather just doesnt understand the word fatigue. De La Hoya was relying on his earlier rounds and thats a load of boll0x like you say. It was 12 rounds, not 9.

ESPN interviewed Mayweather - he is deffinately retiring.

All credit to De La Hoya, he was very gracious in complimenting Mayweather. I think it met the expectations that people who know the sport met - a very strategic fight that was always going to be decided on points.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 112 ✭✭AS_PokerKing

and also to beat a champion you have to beat him decisively, and Mayweather did definitely not do that

go back to poker you are making a fool of yourself and the only lack of knowledge here is you

FMW looked like he could go for another twelve. His speed and fitness was unreal to see. DLH almost completely fell apart in the last 3. FMW landed the big punches, DLH was hitting a lot of nothing. Very good fight.

EDIT: Sounds pretty definate that FMW is retiring. A bit of a shame really but fair play to him.

A very good fight. del a hoya surprised me as I didn't think it would be as close as it was. I was disappointed he ran out of steam towards the end but it was to be expected. It shouldn't have been a split decision, Mayweather obviously the clear winner but a great effort from de la hoya.

i see by your stupid thoughtless reply that u clearly have nothing sensible to say, Mayweather's punches were mainly blocked, and of course he looked like he could go on....he didn't fookin fight he just ran around like a biatch

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Pokerking you obviously dont follow nor participate in boxing regularly so ill forgive you.

Mayweather landed far more effective punches than De La Hoya, whose otherwise decent offensive was hampered greatly by his inability to cover up on the return. After the 9th round, De La Hoya moved forward without throwing punches. Mayweather played him to perfection - he knew he had the stamina to clinch it in the final rounds and thats exactly what happened. Whether you like Mayweather's character or not, to deny him that victory is just plain sour grapes on your part as you wanted De La Hoya to win.

Mayweather was the clear winner and while it may not have been as conclusive as it was predicted, there WAS a clear winner and that was Pretty Boy.

And how many punches did DLH land? Nearly all of his aggressive attacks were off target. Mayweather landed the ones that counted. DLH's defence was not great towards the end too.

have to agree with sky studio panel Hoya shown great class in the interview after the fight

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 112 ✭✭AS_PokerKing

why dont ya get a job with Sky then ya fcukin know-it-all.....mayweather ran scared...his corner told him to te oscar up... end of

do u think that is the sign of a true champion yes or no

even the commentators said that the judges panel favour aggressive fighting....was mayweather aggressive ???? maybe from round 9 - 12

the fight is 12 rounds not 3

Its obvious you know nothing about boxing, but funny the way you back it up your bandwagon analysis.

    Mayweather threw more punches.
    Mayweather landed more punches.
    Mayweather threw the heavier punches.
Mayweathers defence was better than DLH, whose defence never looked great from the first round.

Yes his strategy was to let De La Hoya tire himself out after the half way stage - and it worked didnt it? This is not heavyweight division - gung-ho will not work and sadly, your attitude in the wake of a defeat for the boxer you wanted to win is shameful.

De La Hoya was very gracious in defeat. Its a pitty you cant be the same.

They favour aggressive fighting when it is a lot closer than that fight. DLH landed very little, and had much worse defence. Mayweather landed a good few big punches. If it were close, like say they were both landing the same amount of punches and their defence was equal then it would come down to who was throwing more.

    you really are a muppet....

lets look back at your previous posts on page 2

after round 10 you said " i reckon DLH has done enough to edge it "

after round 12...."PRETTY BOY TAKES IT....FULLY DESERVED"

how can it be fully deserved if DLH did best for the first 10 rounds....scooby doo is less confused than you ya moron

De La Hoya's total collapse in the final 2 rounds did it. I'll admit that I didnt expect him to drop his performance so much at the end, but thats competitive sport for you - you just never know whats going to happen. I said after round 10 that it was tight and I dared not call it. If Mayweather takes the next 2 rounds conclusively - well, surely you learned enough about the sport after tonight's bandwagon journey...

Its your shameful attitude that leads me to believe you know youre wrong more than anything.

That, and the fact that I dont expect you to be able to post in the boxing forum this time tomorrow.

    Have a pleasant morning :)

    FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. FTW!!!

how is my attitude shameful you clown, i said i felt oscar was robbed, i'm on expressing my opinion like u except your bein an ass about it, anyway best of luck to ya, i suggest you try wikipedia for some information on boxing and maybe not drinking as much the next time u wtch it

OSCAR DE LA HOYA ROBBED U WERE...nh, wp, gg, FU

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

I seriously doubt your maturity here. How is your attitude shameful you ask? Have I resorted to name-calling? Or dare I mention that abusive little PM you sent me? As for claiming I've been drinking, the grammar and punctuation of your posts is so appalling that I could make the same claim about you, however as for the attitude you've displayed here, I seem to think its got do with your upbringing more than your state of mind...

I'll say no more on the matter, you will be dealt with soon enough.

I was shocked at the judges decisions, I thought it was either a draw or de la Hoya's win.
