I've been doing some research on Vitamin D (D3 to be precise) and I'm amazed at what I'm learning about this 'not too often mentioned' vitamin.

I myself am treating a thyroid/adrenal disorder and, I'm just discovering, vitamin D is essential when treating autoimmune diseases.
I've discovered too that it is used in treating fibromyalgia (aka osteomalacia), chronic fatigue syndrome, muscle pain, arthritis...

Vitamin D isn't found in too many foods; eggs, fish( cod liver oil is a good source). Best way to receive vitamin D is from sunshine, which of course we don't get alot of in Ireland! Even if we did, many of us spend most of our time indoors and commute in cars or on buses so we aren't as much outdoors as our ancestors would have been.

So we need to supplement vitamin D. This vitamin should be taken alongside a calcium supplement. And naturally if taking any others meds, run this by your GP first...

Thank you for posting this. Im off to get my suppply of Vit D :)

You're more than welcome Jake, make sure you get some calcium while you're at it. I'm taking 2000 iu the past couple of days and it's really helped with serious 'brain fog' issues. Hope it's not just beginners luck though

I've just stumbled across this thread. I've been taking Lyrica 100mg three times a day for the last 6 weeks. I haven't suffered too much from tiredness, but nausea and weight gain have been noticable side effects.
Pain relief has been intermittant at best, so I'm considering increasing the daily dosage to 3x150mg or maybe 3x200mg.

    It still ain't enough :o

How soon do people notice an improvement in pain levels after ingesting a tab? If anything my pain seems to be getting worse.:confused:

PS. my pain stems for a multiple prolapsed disc injury. I had a discectomy last Sept in order to alleviate a lack of sensation down my arms and to ease the worst of the pain. While the op was successful, I'm still in a LOT of pain.

    Hi there,

Being a sufferer since I was 16 and I have tried every tablet possible to help try and relieve pains and help promote sleep. After spending 1000's on tablets I was put onto Dr Downes. She is the most amazing doctor and person I have ever met she understands listens and genuinely helps you she got me from being a girl who could not walk or use my arms to a girl who now is a physical therapist. Words cannot describe how much I admire her and her effort in helping people with FM.

Also, if you are suffering from headaches and maybe clicking in your jaw when you eat perhaps you should get your TMJ joint checked its the joint that opens and closes when you eat :p You should get it checked not with a normal dentist but by a TMJ specialist mail me if you need numbers.

Mind yourselves and the precious energy ye have
    xx

I got changed from Prozac to Lyrica there last week, so I've been taking the lowest dose (25mg) daily since Friday.
Pain does seem somewhat worse, I don't find it's making me dizzy or sleepy (maybe a stronger dose would have this effect) and I'm not really sleeping any better.
Granted, I'm only 6 days on it! But no withdrawal from the Prozac so that's good.

I hate the headaches, they're just such a b*tch, do people find Lyrica helps with those too?

Doc has upped it to 25mg twice a day (since monday there), not noticing too much of a difference. Little bit more sleep so that's good!
No side effects yet either (touch wood).

    hello
I posted on to this before as i was on lyricia 200mg 3 times per day for near 3 years ( and taking up to 40 pills a day) due to a car accident and the side effects were very bad and i had to get something positive done for me as popping pills and feeling like s##t every day was ruining my life, besides the pain!!

i had all the nerve blocks, botox injections and lots others things done and then i was asked would i consider "Spinal Cord Stimulator" trial in dublin, i said yes straight away anything to try ease my pain, so had the trials done on my right arm, neck, shoulder, back and leg and i found the trials very good so i then had the 8 hour operation to get the implant in and i have to say im sooooo much better,

the pain hasnt gone away totally, it never will but the device masks the pain and it has helped me so much,

So ye should consider other options if you all have long term pain

I've been on Lyrica 150mg three times a day for the past 3 weeks.......not much relief in pain,if any :(. No real side effects, surprisingly, apart from a little bout of dizzyness today (almost fell over!), insomnia and a lack of appetite.
I've noticed some intermittent numbness down my arms recently so I'm guessing I've some more discs that need replacing. I've an appointment to see my consultant surgeon next week so I guess I'll know for sure then.

@squeky..... I'm off to do some research on that Spinal Cord Stimulator right now, cheers.:)

Yeah I'm getting the dizzyness / stupidness the past couple of weeks. Not a whole lot of sleep but I'm Soooo tired. And I've put on weight too :(

Yup and I've decided to come off them. Stepping down off them now.
I dunno if twas just the Lyrica, but putting on bad weight, practically falling asleep in work /at the wheel etc., being very cranky, feeling more down than usual.

So I'm going to see how I am without them. I don't know if other people have felt those things, or if it's just me.

I thought though that Myasthenia Gravis was relatively easy to diagnose using the Tesilon test?
    Noel.
Isn't it? it was for me anyway

All classic symptoms of Lyrica. I'm lucky in that I'm having/have had very few side effects (mainly ravished with hunger...similar to a dose of the munchies!:P). Unfortunately for me I'm not getting much relief from pain ,even at 3x150mg a day.:(

Yeah I looked em up :(
I got the rare side effect to amitriptyline of a horrible rash all over my chest and back, and they seemed to work.
Then prozac which took some getting used to, but then they wore off pain relief wise.
And only 2months on the lyrica and getting all the side effects and I just want a break. I've enough pain/lack of sleep/feeling down without the tabs makin em worse. I was only on 2 x 25mg a day, mild compared to yourself, and to my mother who takes em too.
And not much pain relief either.

I take lyrica 4x75mg a day for the last 4 months, they have helped my piriformis syndrome which ive had for 18 months after a dodgy disectomy 95%.I wasnt able to sit for over 15 mins and now i can do as long as i want really-They really are the top drug when it comes to chronic sciatic pain.I have gained about half a stone though and its all on my hips it seems and i had bad headaches when i uped the dose at first,i had the munchies too for a few weeks which really wrecked my head-just couldnt stop eating:)

I am taking the max dose for my sciatic nerve ifflamation but i think theyre really good-but i would say that because you dont know how much sitting is important until you cant do it-like everything i suppose

that's great if they work for you :)
my mother takes them as she's got fibro in her chest and they do help a lot.
I know what you mean about taking things for granted.

Just another quick update. I've been on the maximum dose of 3x200mg since Monday. I'm now feeling absolutely exhausted....and kinda stoned! The pain is still there though, although now it doesn't seem to bother me as much. I'm waiting to get an appointment for another round of MRI scans and X-rays and have a feeling that I've a couple of more discs that are f**ked.:o

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your troubles. Last year I shattered my right shoulder in an accident. I have had chronic pain ever since, in spite of 4 surgeries and ongoing treatment with pretty strong opiates. Yesterday I was given, what the doctor said, a low dose of Lyrica. I cannot believe it, but for the first time in a year I am totally pain free!!! At first I didn't notice it (?) and then it slowly dawned on me. A straight night sleep for the first time since last year. I believe sleepyness is one of the temporary side effects. But to hell, I slept. That's what counts

I hope for you that Lyrica will have the same effect as it has had for me. Good luck.

    Tinus
