Swimming goggles

I'm thinking of taking up swimming, but I have woeful eyesight. I guess it's possible to get goggles that are prescription-only, but have no idea of anywhere that would do it. I live in Cork.

However, are prescription goggles kinda pointless, anyway? If I remember correctly from the last time I was in a pool, below the surface is just a jumble of body parts and agitated h2o - why would I need to see that more clearly?

I guess I'm wondering if any short sighted swimmers out there swear by their prescription goggles and where did they get them?

They are up the north but they are not to expensive if you order online (well not sure what would be considered expensive as I dont wear glasses
Its always handy to see where you are going underwater, you never know what you might hit in some of the pools

I've gotten a couple of pairs of cheap prescription goggles from
    http://www.aquagoggles.com/
Quality is fine and never had problems ordering them online. Only draw back was in openwater swimming the side vision is not great with them. That shouldn't bother you in a pool. These days I wear a cheap pair of speedo goggles with disposable contact lenses.

Bit of an old thread but the recommendation of www.aquagoggles.com was great for me - thanks! Specsavers prescription goggles which only come with the same correction in both eyepieces are €65. Aquagoggles v2 goggles which allow different correction in each eyepiece cost the equivalent of €22 (US$23.95 + US$9.95 P&P + the usual credit card forex margin) delivered (promptly).

I have a high minus presciption and was blind as a bat underwater! got a couple of pairs from a crowd called www.directvision2u.com it worked out pretty cheap. I think most opticians do them but always worth having a look on the web first!

The www.aquagoggles.com ones go to -10 diopter and you can choose different correction for left and right unlike some others like SpecSavers, your link etc. Delivery charges on your link are not clear but I wonder if the total price would be as competitive as www.aquagoggles.com?

No vested interest here other than as a satisfied customer by the way! :)

I agree. Shut up the rest of ye.

Hanley: Your OT post is 100% useless without a pic.

    either this

    180px-The_Goggles,_they_do_nothing!.gif

    or this

    thegoggles.jpg

    would have done nicely.

edit: TM: I'm not taking the peepee out of you. That's just my favourite 5 seconds of the simpsons, ever.
